PRESS RELEASE
NOVEMBER 8, 2018
UPDATE TO MISSING DEER HUNTER-DAVID PELTIER

On November 7th at dark the Pine County Sheriff’s Office suspended official search efforts for David Lee Peltier. Peltier had been reported missing on November 4th by members of his deer hunting party. The group was hunting in the Nemadji State Forest along the Gandy Dancer Trail near “Belden.” Peltier was reported missing after he did not return to the group’s cabin on the evening of November 3rd.
Since receiving the report on November 4th, the Pine County Sheriff’s Office, assisted by multiple agencies as well as family and friends of Mr. Peltier, searched the area with no sign of him. Over 100 volunteers, along with personnel from: Minnesota DNR-conservation officers, Minnesota DNR-Forestry, North Star Search and Rescue K-9, and St. Louis County Search & Rescue worked along with family to search by foot, ATV, swamp accessible machinery and aircraft-including drone.
The Sheriff’s Office will continue to follow up on any new information received. Mr. Peltier had rode to the area with friends and no vehicle is being looked for. Hunters who will be in the area these next few weeks are asked to keep watch and report anything found to the Sheriff’s Office.
The Nemadji State Forest encompasses nearly 92,000 acres in both Pine and Carlton County.
Thank you to all involved in the search effort.

Family of missing hunter puzzled by disappearance from Nemadji State Forest

Saturday marks two weeks since a Minnesota deer hunter disappeared without a trace in the Nemadji State Forest south of Duluth.

His family hopes that with hunters out again for this final weekend of the season, someone may find something.

“As long as I can remember, since we were born, he’s been a hunter,” said Megan Decorsey, the daughter of missing hunter David “Lee” Peltier.

The Pioneer Press reports that Lee Peltier was accompanied by three friends while visiting Nemadji State Forest near Hinckley on Nov. 3. The forest encompasses nearly 93,000 acres in Pine and Carlton counties.

Peltier's family says the group purposefully split up while they were hunting to try and flush out some deer. The family says the 59-year-old was an experienced outdoorsman. He never returned to the group. He was reported missing the next day.

The Pine County Sheriff’s Office is pushing for the publics help in locating several persons missing in Pine County.

During his weekly Sheriff’s Report, Sheriff Jeff Nelson told WCMP that he wants the families to finally have answers.

"Anything we can do to give the family closure, to give them a sense of what happened. I can't imagine what it's like to have no answers," said Nelson.

Irving William O'Brien of Grasston, Minn. has been missing since April 25, and David Lee Peltier was last seen deer hunting in the Nemadji State Forest in November of 2018.

2019 marks the anniversary in the disappearance of Cody Christle. Christle was last seen in the Hinckley area 5 years ago.

This year also marks the 30 year anniversary for the disappearance of Aaron Anderson, who was last seen in the Pine City area.

Sheriff Nelson asks that anyone with information should contact the sheriff’s office at (320) 629-8342.
