Grand Rapids couple charged with torturing young child

Authorities said the girl was rarely allowed to leave her bedroom, subjected to routine assaults and denied food.

Jaymeson Patrick Wahlstrom, 27, and Vivian Rose Wahlstrom, 24, of Grand Rapids, were each charged Friday with child torture.

Can't find any real details... Hoping the girl is doing okay -- at least she is away from her "parents." Also hoping she has some relatives who will take care of her and help her to know that not all adults or relatives are like her "parents."
Hoping also that she can learn to trust people and to know that not all adults are hurtful and scary.

Investigators also said during a single day, the father was seen on video hitting, kicking, and slamming the child around 100 times.

Doctors found at least 20 bruises on her arms, mouth, ribs, back, thighs, shoulders, face and ears, cops wrote. Authorities then went to the home and saw that the girl’s room “had a bare, urine-stained mattress on the floor, one blanket, a pile of dirty dishes with moldy food on them, and a TV,” per the affidavit. In other rooms in the home, there was allegedly urine, dog feces, dirty clothing and garbage.

the elementary age girl is the biological child of Jaymeson and stepchild to Vivian, with whom he also shares several biological children. Vivian made it clear to her husband she had no interest in caring for her stepdaughter and suggested the girl be sent to a boarding school or she would divorce him. I am willing to bet the other children present in the home were not neglected, abused or starved, just the little girl who was scapegoated. In addition to the physical abuse the couple withheld food and there is video evidence from a google nest cam inside the home this abuse went on daily for months prior to investigation and the child's removal. their next court hearing is set for today.

This breaks my heart. It's likely the stepmom was jealous of her. I will never understand, nor do I want to understand people like that. Children are innocent and should all be treated the same. Is there any mention of the birth mother and where she was at during all the abuse? I cant get access to the article without paying for it.

I ran into the same issue trying to read the linked Duluth news tribune article but I found some that do not require subscription so that I could get the gist of this case. None of the articles reference the bio mom or why bio dad had custody of their daughter or if she is in the picture.

Their “Wedding” website Vivian Winckler and Jaymeson Wahlstrom's Wedding Website married after birth of their son/daughter... his daughter was also included in wedding.

6-year-old handicapped child of Jaymeson Patrick Wahlstrom (bio), 27, and Vivian Rose Wahlstrom (step), 24, of Grand Rapids, MN.
