BELTRAMI COUNTY, Minn. (Valley News Live) - Concern in Beltrami County as a vulnerable adult -- who is potentially armed with a gun-- left home, indicating to his family that he would provoke law enforcement into a situation where they would be forced to take his life.

Just before 5:30pm Sunday in Puposky, the Beltrami County Sheriff’s Office responded to the area of Snowshoe LN NW and Highway 89, for a report of a missing vulnerable adult man, possible armed with a gun.

His family says 21-year-old Logan A. Roy had earlier experienced a mental health crisis when he left his home to go for a walk, which is very common for him to do after experiencing a crisis. After leaving the home, family members received text messaging that contained statements of self-harm, to include statements that he would provoke law enforcement into a situation where they would be forced to take his life. Family did confirm that at least one loaded handgun was missing from the residence.

How sad and scary for Logan, his family, LE, and the people in the area.
Hoping LE has had training and/or experience with this kind of thing. I imagine they have so that they will be able to help Logan and avoid injury to anyone involved. Just so sad for all who will have to deal with this tuff situation.
From the article cited above: "Family did confirm that at least one loaded handgun was missing from the residence." <sigh> Who loaded the gun? Did 21 y/o Logan load it or was it already loaded? I'm hoping that the weapon is misplaced in the home rather than poor Logan having it, but I suspect he indeed does have it. This kind of thing has happened before with other people in other places, I'm sure. Just hoping that this one will have a good ending and that Logan can get help, counseling and support from professionals, family and friends.

Unlikely local LE has experience and will be ready to fire if threatened and on high alert. And also if you leave unsecured firearms around vulnerable adults and kids with MH crisises then sadly you should not exect a good result. Hope they can help him but it doesn’t sound good especially if he decides to cut out the “by cop” part.

Search efforts on Sunday night and again Monday were unsuccessful. Roy was last seen walking north on Highway 89 near mile marker 16.

So very sad -- assuming this was a suicide -- poor young man. I'm sure his family is heartbroken but not very surprised. Just plain sad.

RIP Logan. Such a sad situation, and found only three-quarters of a mile from home. Every comment I've read describes him as being a sweet and wonderful person who will be very missed. Many prayers to his family and friends.
