Man charged with sexually assaulting, strangling 2-year-old to death in St. Louis

Police say 21-year-old Nicco Cotton turned himself in on Thursday. Prosecutors charged him with second-degree murder and first-degree sodomy.

Thursday, police said 21-year-old Nicco Cotton turned himself in to police and was charged by prosecutors with second-degree murder, first-degree sodomy, statutory sodomy of a child less than 12 years old, and abuse of a child resulting in death.

Wells said she was at work and left her only son with someone she trusted. She said she received the call after working a 10-hour shift on Monday.

I don’t always support the death penalty but this is one of the kinds of cases that I am 100% for it. I also hope they look further into the mother for possible endangerment charges because while I might be able to understand leaving a toddler with a friend while you went to work a shift, I can’t figure out why this creep would have been the caretaker for several days. Something doesn’t sound right about that.

RIP Bre’yeon Wells

Now, according to police, a 21-year-old man who is allegedly connected to Bre’yeon’s murder turned himself in to police on Thursday, Oct. 30. That man was identified as Nicco Cotton.

According to the probable cause statement, after being mirandized, “(Cotton) told officials that he was the sole caregiver for (Wells) on Oct. 27 and had been for several days.”

SLMPD said Cotton remains in custody, and is facing the following charges:

• Second-degree murder
• Abuse or neglect of a child – resulting in death
• Sodomy or Attempted Sodomy – first-degree
• Statutory Sodomy – deviate sexual intercourse
