CALLAWAY COUNTY — Callaway County investigators were still working Tuesday to identify human remains found near Tebbetts.

Deputies were called to County Road 486 Friday in response to a call reporting the remains.

Callaway County Sheriff Clay Chism said the remains were discovered by the landowner. Deputies were able to confirm the presence of human remains but noted they had decayed, increasing the difficulty in identifying them.

"The remains were in an advanced state of decomposition," the sheriff said. "Which has hampered the onset of the investigation."
Chism said a forensic anthropologist is assisting in the investigation.

"It could take several weeks to conduct this process," he said. "We're probably several weeks if not months from getting a ruling from the medical examiner as to the cause and manner of death."

Chism could only confirm the remains were of an adult, the gender is still unknown.

TEBBETTS, Mo. — The identity of the human remains found March 30 near Tebbetts is still unknown, Callaway County Sheriff Clay Chism said.

The Boone-Callaway County Medical Examiner's Office completed an initial examination of the remains Monday.
"The medical examiner has not made any final conclusions, based on the initial examination," sheriff's office officials said Monday.

TEBBETTS, Mo. - Authorities with the Callaway County Sheriff's Office said Boone-Callaway County Medical Examiner’s Office have identified human remains found near Tebbetts as those of Shaun McGee, 39, of the Jefferson City area.McGee's remains were found along County Road 486 near Tebbetts on March 30, according to an official press release.

The Boone-Callaway County Medical Examiner’s Office confirmed the death was due to methamphetamine use, and there was no evidence of foul play.
