MO - Dominic Smith, 36, found slain in river, St Louis, 16 Sept 2015 *Arrest*

An autopsy revealed the man had been shot in the abdomen and chest, authorities said. The city medical examiner ruled his death a homicide.

The man was described as white and 5 feet 9, with numerous tattoos and at least seven silver fillings in his teeth, authorities said. The tattoos include several faces, a bearded figure and a symbol inside a mouth with large teeth.

When found, he was wearing a tan Ralph Lauren-brand polo shirt, black Dickie-brand slacks, a black, woven leather belt and black Gilden-brand underwear.

The body of Dominic Smith, 36, was discovered floating in the river in South City near the 100 block of E. Krauss September 16. The medical examiner determined that Smith sustained gunshot wounds to the chest and stomach.

The investigation continues into who killed him.

Peter Chafin has confessed to killing Dominic Smith:

Peter Chafin not only confessed to killing his wife in Florissant this week but also admitted killing a man and dumping his body in the Mississippi River last year, police sources said Friday.

Chafin, 42, is charged with second-degree murder in the death of his wife, Kiera Chafin, 22. The sources said charges were expected in the killing of Dominic K. Smith, 36.
