The child was taken to the hospital and admitted, in part, because of malnourishment.
5-year-old found zip-tied, covered in bruises
A friend reported the alleged abuse to police after staying the night at the 26-year-old mother’s house in Florissant, about a 15-mile drive northwest of St. Louis, according to the St. Louis County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office. McClatchy News is not naming the woman to protect the identity of her children.

The mother’s friend made a video recording showing his condition, and the other kids confirmed to police that the 5-year-old’s punishments were routine, investigators said.

the child was subjected to beatings, forced to do wall squats, zip tied, locked in a closet, deprived of food, and more. He was hospitalized for malnourishment. Thankful for the friend who saw something, videotaped evidence and then immediately went and said something. She likely saved that boy's life. I don't know why he was scapegoated but he was and the abuse was only going to worsen over time.
