Name: Jeanetta Brooks
Age:9
Race: African-American
Eye color: Brown
Hair color: Black

DLC: February 14, 1983
Location: St. Louis, Missouri

One month ago, a user on Reddit named "_finding-jeanetta" posted on the r/RBI2 community about their missing sister. Her name is Jeanetta Brooks who hasn't been seen since 1983. Jeanetta was born on May 15, 1973 and she was put into her father's custody after her and her sibling's mother (Jeanetta and her sibling had the same mother, but different fathers) was sent to prison in 1981. Jeanetta's sibling was sent to live with her maternal grandparents in Terre Haute, Indiana, but they weren't separated from their sister for very long. Shortly after gaining custody of Jeanetta, her father dropped off her off at the grandparents' home where she stayed for 2 years.

Just after New Year's Day 1983, Jeanetta's father arrived at her grandparents' home and took her. He was living in St. Louis, Missouri at the time and this is where Jeanetta's father likely took her. When Jeanetta's mother was released from prison in 1986, her father refused to let her speak to the girl. Jeanetta's sibling has managed to speak to family members of Jeanetta's father who said they haven't seen her since early 1983. Jeanetta's sister (the Reddit user's step-sister) has a more specific date- February 14, 1983. She remembers baby-sitting Jeanetta on that day while their father and his wife at the time were out on a date. After that, it seemed as if Jeanetta vanished from the face of the Earth. Her father is still alive and is in his mid-seventies. He has a long and disturbing list of criminal history.

Reddit posts usually are not allowed on Websleuths as they tend to be unreliable or even hoaxes. However, this one is very different as St. Louis Police think it will be helpful to solving one of the most gruesome murder cases ever: St. Louis Jane Doe 1983. The St. Louis Jane Doe is an unidentified African-American girl between the ages of 8-11 whose headless, body was discovered in the basement of an abandoned house in St. Louis on February 28, 1983. Her hands were tied behind her back with red and white nylon rope and she was naked except for a yellow V-neck sweater soaked in blood. The official cause of death for the girl was strangulation, and it was determined she was horrifically raped as well. The girl's head has never been found.

Could Jeanetta Brooks be the St. Louis Jane Doe?

Comment from CeCe Moore from the reddit post

First, I just want to say thank you for everyone's care for and efforts on behalf of St Louis Jane Doe. She is continually on my mind and I will never stop trying to identify her through investigative genetic genealogy, and I know the Detective in charge is never going to give up on her either.

If anyone comes forward (like in this post) who believes they might be related to our Jane Doe (or any other Jane/John Doe), then they need to contact the agency in charge of the case directly. Also, if they or anyone from the theorized family (out to second cousin) has tested their DNA at one of the DNA testing companies, then they should immediately upload their DNA file to GEDmatch (free), so we can compare against SLJD's DNA. Once the file is uploaded and the kit number provided, I can do the comparison immediately (without the kit number, it will take a day or two to see the match if there is one). On these types of cases, we CANNOT compare against DNA profiles in Ancestry, 23andMe or MyHeritage, so it is essential that the DNA be uploaded to one of the two databases against which we are allowed to compare - GEDmatch and FTDNA.

Without going into too much detail, I have received the information involved in this claim regarding Jeanetta and find no evidence whatsoever that supports it.

Cece Moore is indicating that the story is probably a hoax.

"I have received details of the OP's claims regarding Jeanetta and her family from (a reddit user) so I could try to build her family tree to see if she connects to any of the DNA matches and, like him, can find no evidence that any of it is accurate or, sadly, truthful. If, somehow, the OP was telling the truth, then there is something much bigger going on than just one missing girl. An entire family has ceased to exist."
