BERKELEY, Mo. — A family is searching for a 25-year-old woman and her 3-year-old child who went missing from their home in Berkeley.

Berkeley police are looking into what happened.

The family says Makayla Wickerson and her daughter Malayiah were last seen at their home in Berkeley off Graham Lane just under three weeks ago.

“It's not like her. She's a goofy and smart individual. Like, this is not like Makayla at all,” Makayla’s cousin Jamieca Gandy said.

The family last saw them on July 28 and say they are scared, shocked and searching for them both.

“We've been going through social media. We've done a missing person report, but she's cut off all communication with us. So I don't know her whereabouts. I only know her last known address. And she's not there anymore. And it's not like her to leave everything behind,” Makayla’s mom Cartisha Morgan said.

“I have been concerned about who she been hanging out with because there's people that I never seen her with before. I pretty much know the friends that she actually was best friends and always communicate with them as well,” Gandy said.

If you have any information or have seen Makayla or her daughter Malayiah, call police right away.

Oh, wow! Makayla and Malayiah are missing along with 3 other adults and another child. All were followers of cult leader Rashad Jamal.

BERKELEY, Mo. – Police in St. Louis continue to investigate months after four adults and two young children living in the area vanished without a trace. Police claim the group joined an online cult before disappearing.

A spokesperson for the Berkeley Police Department said the group was living in 25-year-old Makayla Wickerson’s home near St. Louis Lambert International Airport for months before vanishing.

Morgan said her daughter had been manipulated by an online cult led by Rashad Jamal.

Jamal, whose legal last name is White, is a self-proclaimed prophet with tens of thousands of followers. At present, he’s serving an 18-year sentence in Georgia for child molestation.

Police in St. Louis continue to investigate months after four adults and two young children living in the area vanished without a trace shortly after joining an online cult.

A spokesperson for the Berkeley Police Department said the group was living in 25-year-old Ma’Kayla Wickerson’s rental home near St. Louis Lambert International Airport for months before vanishing.

In addition to Wickerson and her daughter, police are still searching for Mikayla Thompson, 24, of St. Louis; Naaman Williams, 29, of Washington, D.C.; and Gerrielle German, 27, and a 2-year-old boy, both of Horn Lake, Mississippi.

Gerrielle German and her son, Ashton Williams age 2, from Lake Horn, MS, were reported missing in July 2023.

Horn Lake police said Gerrielle German and her son Ashton were reported missing by German’s mother in early July.

Capt. Jody Keene said German’s ex-husband told them his wife left to go on a spiritual journey.

“We have a friend who dropped them off at an address in Berkeley,” said Capt. Keene. “We did obtain her phone records. Her phone was shut off. Showed she made her last two calls in the St. Louis area which is basically near the Berkeley residence.”

“These people are gone, and it blows my mind,” Major Steve Runge told The Independent.

They were last seen on 13 August 2023 at a Quality Inn Hotel at 55 Dunn Road in Florissant, Missouri.

When police searched the house, they found it left as if the individuals had just “gone to the store” and were expecting to return.

Food was still in the microwave, laundry was still in the washing machine, and left behind were several valuables including a closet full of shoes worth thousands of dollars.

Police also discovered an altar, items wrapped in copper, and other odd findings that led them to believe the adults were fully “living this cult,” Major Runge said.

A self-proclaimed prophet built a ‘cult’ online. Six followers are now missing read full article it's interesting because in 2022, several of Jamal’s followers were accused of committing two separate murders in Alabama.

A group of six people, including two young children, have been missing since August – and police say the adults all have one thing in common – they all openly follow a self-proclaimed “prophet” and rapper with a massive social media following.

After they seemingly vanished without a trace from a rental home in St. Louis, an investigation by the Berkeley Police Department in Missouri was launched, but months later, there are still no answers about their whereabouts

When Cartisha Morgan’s daughter said she was going on a “spiritual journey,” she was initially supportive.

But troubling signs soon appeared, namely when Ma'Kayla Wickerson, 25, distanced herself and her 3-year-old daughter Malaiyah from the rest of her family – a decision that Morgan said was unlike anything her daughter had ever done before. “She was so different,” Morgan told USA TODAY. “I didn’t understand.”

While she grew increasingly concerned, Morgan could never have known what they were caught up in.

Authorities are investigating the disappearances, the alleged cult and possible ties to murders in other states, Missouri police say.
Red emphasis mine.
Hmmm.
The photo (from post # 9 and also the Yahoo link) troubles me due to the unkempt yard.... as if they're neglecting everything except their meditation ??
So sorry for their worried relatives. :(

The leader has a troubling past !
And don't get me started about the fact he was able to contact people with his cell phone and influence followers online, whilst still incarcerated ??
I mean, what the heck ?
Omo.

Ooh, that beautiful Malaiyah! And her pretty Mom...
Are they truly dead or just missing? I just cannot bear this.
My heart aches for them and the people who love them.
