Wife and grandmother Marilyn Brinson was last seen at her residence in the 2000 block of northeast Russell Road in Kansas City, MO. Her husband reported her missing after her co-workers called and said she had failed to arrive for her shift at a Texaco Star Mart.

Her husband reported to police that she went to bed as usual, and when he woke up the next morning she was gone. He speculated that she had left him for a man she was having an affair with, and stated that she had left behind her wedding ring.

Her vehicle, a 1995 Ford Taurus, was located in the middle of 24th Street near Topping Avenue shortly after she was reported missing by her husband. It had been unsuccessfully burned, a partly burned paper towel was stuffed in the gas tank intake pipe, and there was a considerable amount of blood located in the vehicle, and it was later determined that there was also blood in the parking lot of the apartment complex they lived in. Medical testimony and science combined to conclude Marilyn Brinson was dead, as the blood was determined to belong to Ms Brinson, and it was of such a volume that it was determined to be evidence of death.

In their final arguments, prosecutors said Marilyn's relationship showed there was a history of escalating violence in her marriage. Her husband of thirty years, John L. Brinson was charged and subsequently convicted of first degree murder. However, Ms Brinson's body has never been located.
POLICE FOUND HIS HANDPRINT IN MARILYN'S BLOOD IN THE TRUNK OF HER CAR, AND THEY ARGUED THAT THE BLOOD SPATTER EVIDENCE SUPPORTS THAT HE SHOT HER, AND DIATOMS MIXED WITH THE BLOOD EVIDENCE AND IN JOHN'S NAIL SCRAPINGS SUPPORT THE ARGUMENT THAT HE DISPOSED OF HER BODY IN OR NEAR THE MISSOURI RIVER. IT TOOK THE JURY JUST ONE HOUR AND 40 MINUTES TO DECIDE BRINSON WAS GUILTY.

He maintained his innocence in her case until his death, but the couple's adult sons said Marilyn and John were arguing the night before her disappearance, and John himself stated that shortly before his wife went missing, he had learned that she was having an affair.
