Poor kid, I hope there is no long-term damage.

um, trying to find the appropriate words here. It sounds as if Mr. Pierce has quite a serious case of PTSD if a bed had already been arranged in a treatment facility prior to to this incident. I also note this was not his daughter, per other articles this was his wife's daughter, so his stepchild. In what universe did this man think it is acceptable for him to put his hands on a 12 year old girl?

He needs serious help and I hope he gets it, but his having PTSD has absolutely ZERO to do with him assaulting a child and causing her substantial brain injury. MOO IMO That is not PTSD IMO that is a big guy with a temper, that he probably always had but now he is less able to control it maybe.

The mother walked up to the room and as she got to the top of the stairs, she reportedly saw Pierce — who is 5 feet 10 inches tall and over 300 pounds — hit the girl in the head near her temple with the back of his hand three times.
[snip]
Lincoln County Prosecuting Attorney Michael Wood told Lincoln News Now that further medical testing showed the 12-year-old girl had “substantial injuries to her brain.” The victim has to work with a physical therapist to regain motor functions, the outlet reported.

MOO if his wife bails him out I will have certain strong opinions about her. Period. Let him sit in jail until his bed at the treatment facility opens up for him in a couple of weeks.

I’m sure his step daughter will now have PTSD. I agree with ticya, this sounds more like anger than a burst of fear.

It is complex. My own opinion, is that with every wounded/ service connected veteran, we also have a "service connected family".

My vet dad, from Vietnam, had a hairtrigger on anger, 0 to 60 in less than 5 seconds. You learned to be very invisible.

Sad. I hope he gets help, medication and counseling can make a difference.
