Thomas Gunter, 27, a known homeless man, reached a plea agreement in St. Louis Circuit Court in connection with the January 11, 2004 murder of Reverend Curtis McClain who was killed after being attacked, robbed, and then fatally beaten in his church, the Broadway Baptist Church on South Broadway.

The assault, robbery and killing happened even though McClain promised to help Gunter and offered to make him sandwiches since he had not eaten. Rather than take the food, Gunter shot McClain repeatedly and then stole his car.
