When questioned by police, Roberta's date, who lived in the same apartment complex as Roberta, said that he dropped her off outside the apartment complex, drove to a store to buy aspirin, and returned home.
According to the apartment manager, the couple were seen leaving the apartment complex together for the movie, but Roberta did not return. Roberta did not stop at the office to collect her room key on the evening of her disappearance, nor did she collect her mail.
Friends and family of Roberta's told police that she had been trying to break it off with the man and that she described him as "pushy".
In 1971, the man was charged in the kidnapping and attempted murder of a 15-year-old girl in California. While in jail, he committed suicide.
Foul play is suspected in Roberta's disappearance. Her remains have yet to be found.
