Search on for Ash Grove man missing for three weeks

This article has a last seen date as March 31 2021.
His photo also looks different than the others I’ve seen IMO.

Russell Long, 39, was last seen on Wednesday, March 31, at a family member’s house on Farm Road 76 in Willard; he has not been seen nor heard from since.

Kassandra Niemeier, Long’s sister, said he spoke with their mother on the evening of his disappearance; a family member who is the last known person to see Long also spoke with him before he left.
“Our mother, Reba Long, spoke with Russell around 8 p.m. on (the night he disappeared),” Niemeier said. “Mom said that he never mentioned leaving to her, and when she came home after running an errand, Russell was gone.

The ... family member also spoke with Russell before he left, claiming that Russell said a friend was coming to pick him up and he would come back later for his pickup.”
The relative also observed Long getting into the automobile he left in.

“(The) family member said they saw Russell leave in a vehicle, possibly a white SUV, from their home ... in Willard,” she said. “It was late evening. We are not for sure who he was leaving with or why.”

Long left his truck at the relative’s residence with his wallet and keys inside and the windows rolled down, something Niemeier called “highly unusual.”

.....

Long is described as standing about six-feet tall, weighing between 180 and 190 pounds, and having brown shoulder-length hair and a long beard, Niemeier said he usually wears a ballcap with sunglasses on top, blue jeans and a t-shirt or button-up shirt with ripped-off sleeves. She added that he is outgoing and joking with people he knows and shy and reserved around people he doesn’t.

TY for starting Russell's thread!

Hmmm, digging equipment and a backhoe? That's unusual when searching for a MP unless LE has strong reason to believe foul play is involved. There must be much, much more to this than they're releasing to the media. Excavating equipment is rarely "just part of the search" in the average MP case. MOO

...digging equipment and a backhoe...[snip] Deputies say this is just part of the search since his disappearance.

The photo of Mr. Long is a mugshot. It's a paid site at searchquarry.com so I can't per our rules of use publish the info there, but the picture came from an incident in early 2020. The outcome is unknown as the Green County Court Records website was down as of this morning.

Friday morning’s discovery is only a few miles from where a search took place for a missing man just last week. Law enforcement have not said if the two have any connection.

@TootsieFootsie thank you for checking in on Russell’s case & finding a possible update!

I feel like there’s a lot of unknowns around his disappearance...and developments on Russell’s case took a rather strange turn (excavating equipment) fairly quickly. JMO
Thoughts for the family members of whomever this loved one may be.

Yeah, strange for sure. I wonder who's the family member who last saw Russell at home? I also wonder who drives the mysterious white SUV? LE likely has a lot more info than they've released. They didn't use heavy equip in their earlier search for him for nothing, so they must have had reason to suspect foul play. My guess is there will be homicide charges quickly (if these are Russell's remains). I bet they only needed to find his body and get a COD.

I mapped the location (Farm Road 59 near Farm Road 94) to his home address (on the 9900 block of W. Farm Road 76). It appears to be right at 4 miles, depending on where exactly near FR94 the remains were located.

:( Such a sad update yet again. I expect it won't be long before there's an arrest and it's likely to be a relative who was somewhat close to Russell. MOO My guess is there was no mysterious white SUV involved. I hate this for his loved ones as they're facing a major heartache in the wake of his murder. My thoughts and prayers go out to all who love him. Rest in peace, Russell.

Russell Long was last seen by his parents, with whom he lived with in Walnut Grove, on March 31, 2021. The parents left their home around 8 p.m. and by the time they returned later that evening, Russell Long was not there, according to the probable cause statement filed in Greene County Circuit Court.

Deputies received records from Crete/Schaffer Trucking, where Bruce Long worked as a truck driver, that confirmed he was off duty March 30-April 3, 2021. During a formal interview at the Greene County Sheriff's Office, Bruce Long allegedly was caught in a lie when he said Russell Long had dropped off his truck at 10 a.m. March 31, which conflicted with Russell Long's parents' statement that they saw him at their home around 8 p.m. that day.
