Fishermen spotted the body about 10:30 a.m. and notified police, according to Rick Eckhard, spokesman for County Police.

Police are awaiting autopsy results to determine the gender, identity and how long the body may have been in the water.

A man found dead in the Missouri River last weekend has been identified as Michael J. Schafermeyer, 41. Officer Rick Eckhard, St. Louis County police spokesman, said police believe Schafermeyer killed himself by jumping off Blanchette Bridge on Dec. 26.
