On January 31, 2007, American Century, an investment company in Kansas City, received a letter bomb from an anonymous person calling himself "The Bishop." A day later, another financial corporation received a letter of the same type -- this time in Chicago. Both packages were postmarked January 26 from Rolling Meadows, Ill. and shared the same return address in Streamwood, Ill. The letters were specifically addressed to senior managers in the companies. Authorities stated that the devices were made out of PVC pipe, smokeless powder, and buckshot. Luckily, The Bishop did not set the bombs to disarm which led investigators to believe that he was an amateur. However, in the one letter, he wrote: "The only reason you're alive is I didn't attach the one wire."
