On January 12, 2017, Victoria Brown, 28, Ali Brown, 20 (no relation to Victoria), and Darrell Thomas, 29, were killed in a Kansas City apartment at The Trails at the Ridge Apartments (8619 E 61 Terrace, Raytown, MO 64129). Another adult victim and Ali Brown’s 2-year-old son, who was shot 5 times, survived the shooting. The case remains under investigation.

Ali was the daughter of Shaun Brown, former mayor of St. Peters. Brown served as mayor from 2004 to 2006. Trent Brown (Ali Brown's brother, also living in Kansas City area) said she moved to Kansas City looking to make a fresh start about two years ago.

A foundation was started in Ali Brown's honor to help others combating depression. She may also have struggled with drugs, but seemed to be back on track. The home page describes 3 perpetrators:
"One of the suspects is described as a black man with a light complexion and shoulder-length dreadlocks. The second is a black male who was wearing a light gray hoodie at the time. A third suspect has been described as a black male. The Suspect’s vehicle is a black or blue 4 door vehicle."
KC shooting victim had taught in Blue Springs
According to her obituary, Victoria Brown taught math and assisted with the Golden Regiment Marching Band at Blue Springs. She also was a member of First Bible Baptist Church.
Families need answers; detectives need on-record witness to solve KC triple murder
On 1/12/2017 at 2133 hours officers were dispatched to 8607 E. 62nd Street Ter., on sounds of shots. The call was upgraded to a shooting. Officers arrived on scene at about 2140 hours on a reported shooting. Upon arrival, officers entered the apartment and found two deceased victims, Victoria C. Brown and Darrell E. Thomas. Ali R. Brown was transported to a hospital and later died from her injuries. An adult female and juvenile male were found alive but suffering from gunshot wounds. Both were transported to the hospital by ambulance. Det. Hobart Price is the case detective and he can be reached at 816-‐234-‐5248.

- The 3 men were let in the apartment.
- Victoria and Darrell had once dated, but implies that they weren't at the time of the murder.
- The family speculates that Victoria and/or Darrell needed a place to stay.
- The family speculates that the killers were there for Darrell, not for the others.
- Darrell had a criminal history.
- The adult survivor was 22, shot in the face - the KCPD unsolved page says this person is female.
