"Two employees were dead when authorities arrived at a Walmart in Southaven on Tuesday morning.

The suspect, a former Walmart employee, was shot twice by an officer outside the building and was in surgery, Southaven Police Chief Macon Moore said during an 11 a.m. news conference. Both people killed were Walmart employees, according to the company. One of the victims has been identified by his family as store manager, Brandon Gales.

"These people were doing the same thing you and I do every day, showing up to work in an attempt to provide for their families, then became victims of a senseless violent act,” Moore said.

An officer was also shot, but was saved by his protective vest, Moore said."

"Martez Abram shot-and-killed two people at a Mississippi Walmart on July 30, according to the DeSoto County District Attorney John Champion. Abram, 39, is also accused of wounding a police officer during the attack. The shooting occurred at around 6:30 a.m. in the city of Southaven, close to the Mississippi/Tennessee border, 13 miles south of Memphis. He was named as the lone suspect in the crime some 12 hours after the shooting occurred.

Abram has been identified as a disgruntled employee who had recently been suspended having worked at the Walmart location for 25 years. DeSoto County District Attorney John Champion said in announcing Abram as the suspect, that Abram had no prior criminal record. He is expected to face charges of two counts of first-degree murder. Authorities believe that Abram acted alone. The gun used in the shooting was purchased legally.

The two men who were killed have been named as Brandon Gales, 38, and Anthony Brown, 40. Officials have said that Gales was shot dead in the parking lot of the store while Brown was found dead inside of the store"
