Put on your waders before you read the defense attorney's statement. The man was a radiologist after all, not a medic on the front line. Still, that's no excuse.

Good to know that he's finally figured out the "nature of the problem". I'll bet the victims in those images wish he'd figured it out far earlier. And I hardly think Schaff "cooperated" with LE out of the goodness of his heart. He was hoping for a deal.

Doctor seeks lighter term in porn case
September 20, 2011

"Radiologist Dr. David Callahan Schaff is asking for sentence leniency in a federal child pornography case. Schaff, 60, of Tupelo will be sentenced Monday...

and

".....Schaff was indicted Nov. 17, 2010, on two counts - interstate and foreign transportation of child pornography images, and possession of the images. He pleaded guilty to a one-count deal March 28 and faces five to 20 years in prison and a $250,000 fine...."

and

"....Among the factors for a shorter sentence, said attorney Rob Laher of Tupelo, are his lack of a criminal history, 30-plus years of service as a medical doctor and strong family support. "Simply put, this is a defendant who has served his community and helped countless individuals suffering from illness and/or injury..."

Regardless of the service provided by Dr. Schaff to his community, he's going away:

David Callahan Schaff was sentenced today to federal prison for violating child pornography laws. Senior Judge Neal B. Biggers sentenced him to 72 months in prison and six years supervised released, once he has served his time. Schaff, who gave up his medical license in three states, also must register as a sex offender...."

and

"...Schaff stood before Biggers and said he was very remorseful for his behavior. Where he will serve his prison time will be determined by the U.S. Bureau of Prisons. He will remain free on $5,000 bond until he reports Nov. 1...."

Gee, that's a high bond, isn't it....for a radiologist? I hope we see Schaff on November 1st.
