Prentiss County officials are searching for a man who has not been seen in a week.

According to Prentiss County Sheriff Randy Tolar, a family member reported that Michael Paul Massengill, 37, of Burnsville, has not been seen or heard from in more than a week.

He was last seen on County Road 1471 in the northeast corner of Prentiss County at his father's home. He left the residence walking. Massengill is 5'9" and weighs 160 pounds.

He is on probation/parole. If they put a warrant out it may be easier to find him.

[h=1]Body found in Prentiss County, foul play not suspected[/h]

BOONEVILLE – A man walking along a railroad track in rural Prentiss County discovered a decomposed body Tuesday afternoon. Officials believe it is a man reported missing a few weeks ago.


“It does not appear to be foul play,” said Prentiss County Sheriff Randy Tolar. “Based on the location, clothing and description, we have a pretty good idea who it is but are not going to release a name until it is confirmed.


“The coroner took the body to the state pathologist near Jackson. He also took a DNA sample from a relative of the person missing for several weeks for comparison.”


Family members of Michael Massengill, 38, of Burnsville, told authorities that he was last seen around Sept. 12 walking in the area of County Road 1471. The body found Tuesday was less than a half-mile from there near a railroad track between county roads 1495 and 1481 in the Cairo community.
