I saw this on another forum.
He was found locked inside the trunk of a submerged car in Gulf Shores, Alabama. He had been missing for over a year at that time.

There was a follow-up article a year later (1988) saying that 'leads had surfaced,' but this remains an unsolved cold case to this day.
