At the risk of sounding absurd this is theory 1.

WS Theory 1:

1 - Perpetrator/s: BR & JR
2 - Motive and contributing factors:
Fit of rage born out of behavioural issues - query Asperger's syndrome.
3 - Access/Entry to victim: lives with victim and resides in home.
4 - Weapon: floor surface or furniture
5 - Length of stay: BR in house during murder date/time 2400 to 0500
6 - First offence: Yes
7 - Red herring/s: Ransom note. Body positioning. Ligatures. Suitcase. All staged.
8 - Accidental death perpetrated by BR. Dispute causes a physical altercation between BR and JBR. BR pushes or throws JBR who falls and strikes her head on a hard surface (floor or edge of furniture or stairs). JR is alerted by the commotion and stages the scene to protect BR. PR is asleep and wakes at 0552 to the ransom note and dials 911.

WS Theory 2

1 - Perp: LHP & hired gun (HG)
2 - Motive: Revenge and financial gain.
3 - Access: Employed by the Ramsey family.
4 - Weapon: Portable implement; torch, club, tire-iron
5 - Length of stay: 1-2hrs. 2400 to 0200 at a guess.
6 - First time: Inexperienced killer. Novice.
7 - Red herring/s: Ransom note. Staging of body; posing and ligatures.
8 - A robbery gone wrong. LHP seeks monetary compensation due to a grudge and enlists an accomplice (hired gun) to enter the home alone to rob it of gifts/jewellery etc. HG's inexperienced however and is either disturbed by Jonbenet or in an opportunistic move seeks her out. She silenced with tape, and struck to be subdued. He asphyxiates her with items in the home. Once she is dead, he constructs a ransom note as a red herring.

WS Theory 3
1 - Perp: A local or acquaintance who has visited the premises. MH? (deceased).
2 - Motive: Infatuation.
3 - Access: Perp has previously entered the home either through open home party, or as part of a circle of acquaintances, friends or to service the home in some way electrics/plumbing/gardening. Entry via basement.
4 - Weapon: Blunt object. Torch etc. for night vision during prowling.
5 - Length of stay: 1-2hrs 2400 to 0200. Enough time for rigamortis to set in prior to discovery.
6 - First time: Possibly. The intent was murder and there was a ritual to it. They were driven enough to breach defences and snatch a child but too shy to sexually assault her. They could not deal with hysterics so she was struck on the head. The real sex was the asphyxiation. This person was still developing their methods. This was a fantasy kill. Definitely planned.
7 - Red Herrings: Ransom note.
8 - A targeted attack. The perp did his research and surveillance. He acted alone and had thought about his crime and the Ransom note was spur of the moment to re-direct interest and for notoriety. This person is known to the family in passing.

I believe theory 3 is the most likely.

Also there is a rule on this forum apparently: no intruder theories.

One has to be ignorant of the case to bring up Helgoth or Pugh anyway.
