Mystery Missile Launch Seen off Calif. Coast

I have a friend who has a degree in aerospace engineering and served in the military for over 20 years flying planes. Here's his response;

Well, contrails don't normally originate from the ground and continue all the way up. If that were the case then we would see this kind of thing all the time trailing behind airplanes. "Contrails", or "condensation trails" occur when the moisture content and air tempurature are at the proper conditions such that when an aircraft passes through that air mass, condensation is initiatied because the air is cooled while it speeds up over the wing surface. In essence, the aircraft is high enough and the air quality is such that the air craft gives that final boost to make it's own clouds. I cannot think of a time where I have seen an aircraft make it's own contrail at a low altitude so I am very skeptical that an aircraft was the culprit of this. But I suppose that it MAY be possible.

Your link did not work for me.

I do have to say, respectfully, to those who think that this was the work of the Russians, Iranians, or Chinese...what possible reason would the US govt have for keeping it a secret? If it were really them, you can be damned sure that they would make that public ASAP, as that would show how dangerous the world really is-something some Americans do not get. They would not keep this secret.

However, I do not think it was an airplane-I used to live right on the coast east of where this was seen--we used to watch the airplanes everyday, and none made such wide contrails like that, nor moved as fast. There is a military installation on San. Nicholas Island (past Catalina Island). The image appears to be coming from just north of that area, and in talking to friends from the area, they concur. I think it is more likely that it was a test that went haywire, and the military do not want to admit it.
"Coincidence?
The missile fired off of the California coast this week appeared on the same day that a Chinese sub surprised US officials when it appeared suddenly in a US carrier group back in 2007"

Interesting.

If that's an airplane, I'll eat my hat. The G-forces at an angle like that would be both insane and rip off the wings, people would not have survived - and if they had, they'd've been all over the news yelling about a bad ride.

No, this was something that "they" don't want to give us info on...for what reason, I dunno. But that photo is about as clear as anything that it is no plane.

Holy Carp--did anyone see this???

http://ireport.cnn.com/docs/DOC-517867?ref=nf

So those who thought it was China WERE right...my apologies!

This is an ireport. From CNN: "iReport is the way people like you report the news. The stories in this section are not edited, fact-checked or screened before they post."

Just another theory, IMO.
