First, I feel terribly sorry for Haleigh and Ron, Jr. A friend of mine who is a child psychologist says that a child can survive and thrive with one adequate parent. Clearly, given the issues with drugs and drug trafficking here (let alone psychopathology, which is out of my ability to determine), these kids were dealt a bad hand from birth.
I've taken issue with much of the anti-Ron Cummings posting here on WS. I don't personally know anyone involved in the case, for which I am increasingly thankful. But based on the information available in the media, I couldn't understand what appeared to me to be somewhat exaggerated claims about Ron Cummings and his "evility" (one of my favorite made-up words). Media reports that his job required drug testing, that he was at work when Haleigh disappeared, the time gap from his last arrests, etc., LE putting the bio parents at the bottom of the suspect list, etc. seemed to indicate that it wasn't likely that he had murdered his daughter. I am still of the mind that while all of the adults in Haleigh's life could have been involved in drugs and the drug trade, that involvement would not necessarily be directly involved with Haleigh's disappearance. That said, how stupid, arrogant, selfish, and narcissistic for anyone under intensive LE and media scrutiny to be involved in a drug ring. How stupid, shallow, and utterly revealing for a man to continue his involvement with the Croslin family when it is clear what they are and with Misty, in particular, when it is her lying, deceitful ways that have stymied the investigation from the get-go. If this pair is/was up to their necks in a drug ring, they are/were necessarily involved with all kinds of dirt bags who use and deal drugs, some of whom might also be pedophiles. The non-drug involved neighborhood dirt bag/pedophiles may well have observed what Ron and Misty were all about and found an opportunity. And of course, we are also back to the possibility of totally accidental overdose (e.g., Haleigh finding pills and taking them herself), negligent overdose (e.g., giving her downers to keep her quiet), and evil overdose (giving the child drugs for kicks, like filling the dog bowl with beer.) So now it will be interesting to see just how these self-involved, immature "adults" put Haleigh and her brother at risk.
