Teri Brewer can’t believe the statue that stood out front of the family business is missing. “He is so lovable,” she said.

Some might argue with that. The nearly 8 foot tall, hundreds of pounds statue is that of Sasquatch, or more commonly known, Bigfoot.

“He’s part of the family,” said Mountaineer Landscaping store manager Glenna Ollis. The statue had been out front for three years and had become a popular spot for tourists taking selfies or group photos.

Sometime late Friday into early Saturday morning, someone unbolted the statue from its perch and stole it. “It had to be several people involved,” said Teri’s husband Wayne.

Searching for Sasquatch!!

The Avery County Sheriff’s Office is searching for Sasquatch and needs the public’s help. During the night person(s) unknown stole the 6’ 180 lb Bigfoot from Mountaineer Landscaping in Linville. Anyone that saw anything at this location please such as a vehicle pulled off last night or people around the business after hours, please contact the Avery County Sheriff’s Office at 828-733-2071.

WOW. That took some work...getting BIGFOOT.

Some who know me may think I’m the culprit. But no - I was in another part of NC when this event occurred. Promise.

It was probably taken by a group of real Sasquatch who mistook it for one of their buddies.

Avery County Sheriff Kevin Frye said his deputies have gotten at least 100 calls regarding the “iconic” statue since posting about the theft on the department’s Facebook page Saturday.

“We are chasing down several leads at the moment,” Frye told The Post. “But so far, we’ve not been able to find the Sasquatch in any of the locations that we’ve checked out.”

Deputies have responded to an unfounded report about the statue being on the back of a truck headed toward Hickory and up to five sightings in Avery and Watauga counties. But Frye believes the best bet to locate the fiberglass resin statue may come next month at the WNC Bigfoot Festival in Marion.

“Where else would a Bigfoot show up other than a Bigfoot festival?” the sheriff joked. “It’s so out of the ordinary that everybody gets caught up into it. I knew when I posted this it would generate interest, but I had no idea it would go national.”

I remember stories of people's lawn statues disappearing, and then over the following weeks, receiving photos in the mail of their beloved garden statue at famous landmarks such as the Eiffel Tower, Disneyland, Mt Rushmore, etc. After a fun-filled vacation, the statue is eventually returned to the rightful owner, just as mysteriously as it disappeared.

I wonder if that's what bigfoot's abductor had in mind. Maybe the Ollis's have started receiving photos of Sassy by now and he'll show up at the Bigfoot Festival. Someone might even recognize him before then, unless he's wearing a clever disguise.
