SCOTLAND COUNTY, N.C. (WBTW) — A Silver Alert was issued Friday night for a missing 70-year-old in Scotland County.

Brenda Douglas Covington was last seen at the intersection of Harry Malloy and Highland roads in Laurinburg, according to the Scotland County Sheriff’s Office.

Covington has dementia or Alzheimer’s. She is 5-foot-6, weighs 150 pounds and has gray or black hair and brown eyes, according to officials.

Covington was last seen wearing blue jeans, a white hat, glasses and blue sneakers.

“Search operations will continue [Monday] in a five-mile area extending from the intersection of Harry Malloy and Highland roads,” the sheriff’s office said. “Residents may see search personnel in and around their property.”

The Scotland Conty Sheriff's Office is giving a press briefing Monday at 11:00am ET
 
SCOTLAND COUNTY, N.C. (WBTW) — The search and rescue for a missing Scotland County woman will become a search and recovery operation Tuesday morning, officials said Monday.

Officials are expected to have another news conference at 11 a.m. Tuesday.

 
On Tuesday, officials said search efforts were being refocused in the Produce Market and McGirts Bridge areas.

“We ask the public to search their doorbell cameras, security cameras, etc. for any sign of Covington anytime from Friday around 2 p.m. through Saturday,” Scotland County Sheriff Ralph Kersey wrote on Facebook.

On Monday, bloodhounds and search crews focused efforts in the East Laurinburg and North Laurinburg areas.

SCOTLAND COUNTY, N.C. (WMBF) – Thousands of man hours and dollars have been put into the search for a missing Laurinburg woman, but one agency is scaling back its efforts.

Scotland County Sheriff Ralph Kersey announced on Wednesday that the search for Brenda Covington has been scaled back to a missing person operation. It means that the sheriff’s office will investigate all leads and clues, but won’t have an active search team looking for her.

Two years have passed since anyone has seen or heard from Brenda Covington of Laurinburg.

At one point, more than 200 first responders, law enforcement officers and volunteers searched for Covington in the area where she was last seen as well as other communities in Laurinburg.

Dover said the case has gone cold, but they're not giving up in the search for Covington.
