HAYWOOD CO., NC (FOX Carolina) - An Amber Alert was issued early Wednesday for a missing endangered infant out of Haywood County. Deputies say the child's parents, who are wanted on felony child abuse charges, fled the county on Tuesday.

Investigators say Heather Cochran and Rex Douglas Cochran Jr. were last seen in the 200 block of Northwood Drive in Clyde around 10:15 a.m. The couple is wanted in north Dakota on felony child abuse charges.

The Cochran's fled Haywood County with their 3-month-old daughter, Cali Marie Cochran, after an emergency custody order was released, deputies say.
Deputies believe the couple is driving a blue 2001 Ford Mustang and may be headed to Florida or Georgia.

The trio are possibly headed to Ocala, FL or Valdosta, GA.
The baby is about 20 inches tall and weighs 10 pounds. The man, 39, is 5 feet 7 inches tall and weighs 185 pounds. He has brown hair and brown eyes. The woman is 31 years old, 5 feet 4 inches tall and weighs 120 pounds. She has brown hair, green eyes and a tattoo on the right side of neck that reads "Faith."

Are these the parents? They look related. Having the crooked smile and noses I thought it was possibly the same person when I first glanced at the photos.

Now Nationwide:
HAYWOOD COUNTY --

A now nationwide Amber Alert has been issued as authorities search for a couple who is accused of fleeing Haywood County, North Carolina with their 3-month-old daughter.

The alert was issued after Cali Marie Cochran was reported missing near Asheville.

I thought there was no such thing as a nationwide Amber Alert. At least that was what I thought we had determined with MCET's case.

Rex Douglas Cochran has a lengthy record of arrests in GA:

Theft, Burglary, Forgery, and the 2014 arrest in Valdosta for Armed Robbery says "Currently Serving". Anyone know what that means? :scared:

Valdosta Transitional Center in GA preps inmates thru a work release program so the inmates re-entry into society with basic skills.

Link

MISSION:

To assist residents in making successful transitions back into their communities by providing therapeutic counseling, social, and employment skills. Valdosta State Prison is the host facility.

IMOO, that link is incorrect.

Hmm... since it's a transitional facility, maybe he was released but is still required to check in, do community service, counseling, etc. and so technically "still serving" in the program? I figured we would be hearing it in the news if this was an escaped convict. Still, he has a pretty long record. Armed robbery means he has had access to weapons in the past.

Hope baby Cali is ok!

Per ND court records (link above) both cases of child abuse are showing inactive. What am I missing?
See the orange w to the left of the case #? That means there is an active warrant on those cases and they are "inactive" on the court calendar since there is no telling when said person will appear. Or thats my understanding from monitoring other cases here in North Dakota.

An Amber Alert that had been issued for a missing 3-month-old in North Carolina has been cancelled after the child was recovered safe.

Officers announced just before 7 p.m. Wednesday that 3-month-old Cali Marie Cochran had been found.

Her non-custodial parents, Rex Douglas Cochran Jr. and Heather Marie Cochran, were taken into custody around 5:25 PM at 445 Coffee Lane in Fletcher, North Carolina.

Officers from the Fletcher Police Department and deputies from the Henderson County Sheriff’s Office made entry and located them in the basement of a home there.

The child is safe and is being evaluated by medical personnel at this time, which is standard procedure when a child is involved.

HAYWOOD COUNTY An Amber Alert in North Carolina was canceled after police say a 3-month-old girl who was missing near Asheville is safe. Her parents, suspected of abducting her, were arrested.
...
Police arrested the Cochrans, ABC11 Eyewitness News reported, after they were found in the basement of a home in Fletcher, N.C.

Fletcher, NC, is a small mountain town --

Fletcher is a town in Henderson County, North Carolina, United States. The population was 7,187 at the 2010 census. Fletcher is home to Asheville Regional Airport, which serves Western North Carolina. Wikipedia

Deputies said the Cochrans have previously had three children taken from their custody in North Dakota before this incident.
The family was living in Clyde, NC near some extended family when Haywood County DSS began investigating, deputies said. DSS went to the home on Northwood drive earlier and determined the baby should be placed in protective custody. Deputies said when DSS returned with a court order to take Cali, the family was gone.

Ahhh, so that explains it! Thanks, Grouchymom!

Now it makes better sense. They knew they were gonna lose their little girl. It's hard for me to understand this thing -- usually child abusers abuse their child(ren) because they resent them, or they think the child is possessed, or they're intoxicated/drunk or on a bad drug thing, or just plain mean. These people apparently wanted this child -- why? Are drugs involved here? It would explain a lot. I guess with their other children, all was okay for a while, then things got out of control. It's a mystery to me...

ETA: I do wonder how this will go in court & what their charges will be -- kidnapping, I guess. And I guess they had been notified of their little girl being taken away from them. SMH
