Reaves, 18, was a freshman at North Carolina A&T State University who died Tuesday night after a shooting in the 1000 block of Sullivan Street.

A 20-year-old woman was also shot. She was not a student at the university and did not suffer serious injuries.

Reaves’ father, Jeremiah Frazier, said when he sent his daughter to the university from Chicago, he thought she was getting away from all the gun violence. The last text he received from her said she would call him tomorrow. Now, that call will never come from his little girl.

“The harsh reality of talking to the coroner’s office and detectives and funeral home directors,” Frazier said. “This is the reality, and it’s the worst feeling in the world.”

Since moving here six years ago, I have noticed numerous shootings and killings associated with A&T students at parties.
It is my opinion only that it is associated with gang activity around the school area.
I noticed shooting associated with Spring Garden Rd, around UNCG. I believe gang members hang out around Universities either looking for parties or someone to rob. They end up getting into fights or shooting at other gang members and innocent people get shot.

This is not fact but just my observations from following the local news here.

Recently lived in a small California college town for a few years and there were often shootings associated with non-students firing guns off, or shooting people directly, when they were denied entry to college parties. It was to the point where I would have been terrified if my child was attending off campus college parties. Most of the suspects have gang ties, and were often in town from bigger cities. I wonder if they come to the parties to sell drugs to the party goers?

Good point about selling drugs at the parties, I did not think of that.

Bumping, nothing new, but an Aggie gathering was held for Deja, along with a celebration of her life in Chicago, back in April:
On Friday afternoon, her fellow Aggies held an event to remember their classmate.

Reaves is one of several NCA&T students who’ve lost their lives to gun violence. Students said too many young people are dying, and they want something done to stop it.

“As a university, it’s very important that we unite through our successes, our hardships, and this here was a hardship for us losing one of our fellow aggies: Deja Rae Reeves,” said Mariah Couch, who organized the event.
