Nearly every day for the past four months, Brooke Lossiah and her mother, brother and father have driven all around Asheville to Leicester from their home on the Qualla Boundary, searching for their brother and son, Gabriel Thor Crow, who was last seen Jan. 25
said.
Gabriel Crow hand weaves a basket with river cane. Crow was reported missing at the end of January, and APD has undertaken multiple all-day searches in the Asheville area looking for him.

A missing person report was first filed with the Asheville Police Department on Jan. 28, spokesperson Rick Rice told the Citizen Times. Since then, APD has analyzed digital data, conducted drone searches and interviewed “an array of people” connected to Crow, such as family members and close associates.

Monday, April 29, marked APD’s third full-day search of an area for Crow, Rice said, after recent information suggested he may be near Spivey Mountain in West Asheville.

Four days before he was last seen, Crow’s mother made him a cake for his birthday Jan. 21. Charleen Crow remembers him eating a piece of cake Jan. 25, but he was irritated about something and “just wanted to go,” she said. A day later, she got a text from him.

“He just told me, “I’m OK mom, I just need to figure out what I need to do to move forward, and I’ll be home tomorrow,’ and that was the last time I heard from him,” Charleen Crow said

If you look at various missing posters for him on FB he has some colorful, unique tattoos on the neck which might be useful in identifying him if he is seen.

I live about 30 minutes west of Asheville, but work in Asheville. I’ve always got my eye out for him and I’m praying for Gabe and his family.

ASHEVILLE, N.C. (828newsNOW) — Jan. 27, 2024 — that’s the last day Gabriel Thor Crow was seen.

Since then, there have been several searches in the Starnes Cove and Spivey Mountain areas of West Asheville — close to where a Buncombe County deputy talked with Crow.

Searchers who gathered in West Asheville last April said Crow, a noted Cherokee basket maker, rented a vehicle on Jan. 25, 2024.

According to the National Missing and Unidentified Persons System, a Buncombe County Sheriff’s Office deputy found the rental car in a field off Starnes Cove Road about 12:23 p.m. on Jan. 27. The doors were open, but no one was around. The deputy found Crow further down the road near Yosemite Trail.

The deputy talked with Crow, the NamUs website said.

“He stated that he was visiting a friend and found out things he did not like and did not want to be involved with them anymore,” the website said. “Gabe made the statement to the deputy that he thought someone had put something in his car.”

I think this information is key - he found out someone he knew was involved in something he didn't wish to be part of (assuming on my part, that it was something illegal). Or he witnessed something he was uncomfortable with.

Outside of a few vehicular infractions, speeding, etc. as a young man, he has no known criminal history or ties that we know of to anything illegal. Hopefully LE is actively following up - just because we don't have that other person's name, doesn't mean law enforcement doesn't know it.
