A Marion man reported missing earlier this week was found dead near Huskins Branch Road, authorities said Friday.

Gary Neal Boatwright, 50, had left the Men’s Shelter on State Street on Monday, Aug. 14, en route to work at Baxter Healthcare. He did not arrive at work and had been missing since.

According to a statement by the Marion Police Department, the McDowell County Sheriff’s Office received information around noon on Friday of a suspicious vehicle located on Huskins Branch Road. Upon arrival, they discovered that the vehicle, a black 2003 Saturn Ion, did in fact belong to Boatwright.

Deputy G. Stevenson was called to the scene with K-9 Jazz as they, along with investigators from the Sheriff’s Office, Marion P.D. and personnel from Emergency Management, began to search the wooded area near where the vehicle was parked. Sometime later, Boatwright was discovered deceased.
