Miami man scheduled to board flight at RDU reported missing

A 39-year-old Miami man who spent a week visiting friends in Henderson has been reported missing by family members who are offering a reward for information that will help find him.

Hasiel Gonzalez was last heard from on Sunday afternoon, one day before he was scheduled to board an American Airlines flight out of Raleigh-Durham International Airport on Monday for home.

The missing man’s family filed a missing person’s report with the Vance County Sheriff’s Office after he did not check in for the 6:15 p.m. flight. One day after filing the missing person’s report, his sister, Maday Gonzalez, who lives in Houston, announced Tuesday that the family is offering a $10,000 reward “for solid information leading to his whereabouts.”

County officials have not yet been able to confirm the identify of a man whose body was found off Walker Road in Vance County on Friday, although they have reason to believe it is the body of a Florida man who had been missing in the county since Jan. 22.

Sheriff Peter White said the body was found in the same area where Hasiel Gonzalez had last been seen Jan. 22.

Gonzalez, 39, was scheduled to return to Miami on Jan. 23. When he missed his flight, his family reported him missing.

White said law enforcement officers are treating Gonzalez's death as a homicide and do have a person of interest in the case. The sheriff did not say how Gonzalez died. He was waiting on the medical examiner for that determination and for a positive identification.

They have named his person of interest but I haven’t found anything since 2017.
