At this point in his life, with his health failing and feeling as if he is running out of time, Dennis Choate would just like for somebody in the Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office to return his phone calls. His brother, Michael, was beaten to death in Rural Hall 30 years ago, and no one has ever been charged...

Mike Choate was 33 when he was killed in March 1986. His badly beaten body was found on a sofa in the den of his house in Rural Hall. He had only been in the house for about a year and had been married for about six months. He ran a used-car business out of his home... Traces of drugs were found in the house, investigators said without offering any detail.

An autopsy showed that Mike Choate died sometime March 28, 1986, from blunt force trauma to his head... “His arms and fingers were broken, like he’d held up his hands to protect himself when he realized what was happening to him,” Dennis Choate said.
