Recovered/Located Nc - Patrick Koerschner, 17, Asheville, 26 June 2018 *armed & Dangerous*

  • #21
Just to clarify, I am in NO WAY defending anything he may have done. IMO having some empathy for his family doesn’t mean I want him treated any differently than anyone else who may have committed a crime.
Did the woman die?? I wasn’t aware of that.
The latest status was ”stable but critical condition“. No updates found so far.

my comment meant, left to die, if she didnt get help she might have. It's just personally upsetting to see certain people get treated with kiddy gloves while others are shoot on sight.

You think when someone turns themselves in the police should just go guns blazing and blow them away? If this kid was taken to the mental health hospital before the police were involved, should SWAT have stormed the hospital to secure this kid? This wasn't someone being pulled over/chased in the wild, this was him arranging through an attorney to turn himself in. This is a *good* result, no matter if he turns out to be guilty or innocent.

Police find missing teen considered 'armed and dangerous'

' "He reached out to his parents and to his lawyer and as a consequence of that he's in the hospital," attorney Sean Devereux said, stressing the fact that Koerschner turned himself him[sic]. '

must be nice.
You are taking a gaze at the wrong side, I mean if police can bring in a person who IS violent and homicidal, why cant that be the approach with everyone. It clearly can be done.

But in the end, he's in custody and no one else will get hurt. Thats what matters.

Sigh.....anyway, I hope we hear more. I certainly hope the woman who was shot recovers quickly.

I suppose the police could always tell everyone they approach to "Please contact your lawyer and turn yourself in peacefully at your leisure so we can check you out," but I don't think that would end up being a very effective strategy with most stop and checks. At least it should cut down on police violence toward the innocent they encounter, though.

Snarks aside, I'd hope you at least think shooting people in the back is not a great way to approach a police interaction, that that is a problem. Because if not, I cant even reply.

But it's good Patrick used his privilege to be able to turn himself in peacefully.

I just didn't understand why you would use this incident of someone turning himself in for snark about his being treated with "kiddy gloves." Unless you have some specific similar incident where an unprivileged kid was shot in the back with his lawyer present while turning himself in.

Had the police found/chased down this "armed and dangerous" guy themselves, maybe he would be dead, but this peaceful surrender is in no way comparable to police stops out on the streets where police so often seem to get away with saying their fears justify their trigger-happy fingers.

Raw interview with his victim. What an amazing young lady!

Asheville shooting victim's mother says she wants justice for her daughter

I'm perplexed why she says she wants to apologize for whatever it is that prompted this. She does mention a large contingent of peers being on "his side" and saying she provoked him and that she deserved it. SMH.

Essentially he was an acquaintance, they had hung out with others 3 times prior, she contacted him to buy $40 worth of weed. She picked him up, they went to a cul de sac up a mountain where he said they would have to hike to a guy's house to get the marijuana, he claimed to have a cramp and then he shot her. He took off, came back to get her keys, went to take off and she jumped on back of car. He said he would drive her to hospital, but drove past turn so she jumped out of car.

Patrick Michael Koerschner, 17, is charged with robbery with a dangerous weapon, assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill and first-degree kidnapping — all felonies.

The teen's charges stem from June 25, when police say he used a black, small-caliber handgun to shoot and then rob an 18-year-old woman, according to warrants.

Yeah, I can see "apologizing" if she's scared of Patrick's "friends". She did do a dumb thing. Not that this situation is in any way her fault-- just that when you buy weed in a state where it's illegal, anything can happen. Sadly.

I'm very glad that she got out of the situation with her life.

He was willing to take her life, and throw away his own over 40 freaking dollars. Glad he turned himself in, now he needs to stay locked up.

There was an interview with the woman on WLOS. She is forgiving and worried for the young man and involved.
