DEPUTIES SEEK ASSISTANCE FROM THE PUBLIC AS THEY SEARCH FOR MISSING WOMAN

Hillsborough, NC (May 26, 2024) – The Orange County Sheriff’s Office is asking for assistance from the public as they search for Shirley Haith, 79.

Family members reported her missing on Friday. No attempts to locate her thus far have been successful.

Mrs. Haith drives a 1997 blue Ford Contour with license plate number XWY-7639.

She is five feet two inches tall. She weighs approximately 180 pounds and has short white hair.

Deputies have entered Mrs. Haith into NCIC as a missing person.

Please call 911 immediately if you see Mrs. Haith or have any information regarding her whereabouts. Thank you.

Shirley Haith was last seen at midday on Wednesday, May 22. Family members reported her missing on Friday, May 24. Haith lives in a rural area, in the northwestern part of Orange County near the intersection of Harmony Church and Lynch Store Roads.

The sheriff’s office says she rarely ventures far from her residence other than for a few regular errands and activities.

The sheriff’s office said Haith has no known cognitive issues and does not qualify for a Silver Alert.

Deputies found the body of 79-year-old Shirley Haith in an overgrown area on Thursday afternoon. She'd been missing since May 24.
Deputies said she died not long after leaving her home due to a medical emergency. They said it appears she became disoriented, drove her car down an unmaintained and overgrown former road, tried to turn around and got stuck, and then tried walking a few yards before collapsing.
