Ta-Haley Payton was last seen on the 700 block of Charlottetowne Avenue on November 20.

Her sister, Karlotta Payton, said Ta-Haley was originally from Greenville, South Carolina, but came to Charlotte to celebrate her birthday with her boyfriend.

According to Ta’Haley’s sister, Karlotta Payton, she told The North Carolina Beat that the couple checked into the Microtel Inn & Suites by Wyndham Charlotte/Northlake on Ta’Haley’s birthday, Nov. 19. During the trip, tensions escalated when Setoby allegedly accused Ta’Haley of texting other men. This argument led to the couple checking out of the hotel the next morning Nov. 20, but Setoby reportedly drove off, leaving Ta’Haley behind at the hotel.

Following Setoby leaving her, Ta’Haley walked to a nearby Circle K gas station, attempting to contact her family for help. Her phone had been broken in prior incidents with Setoby, forcing her to rely on his phone to stay in touch with loved ones.

CHARLOTTE — Friends and family spend Saturday morning searching for a 22-year-old woman who has been missing for more than a week.

However, the boyfriend returned back to Greenville without Ta-Haley. When questioned about her whereabouts, he admitted to leaving her

He then questioned why her family hadn’t been to Charlotte to pick her up, according to Karlotta.

“It’s very disheartening just to know she was out here by herself and she was supposed to be with someone who was supposed to protect her,” Karlotta expressed.

MISSING

A Greenville, South Carolina woman mysteriously vanished while on a birthday trip with her boyfriend in Charlotte, North Carolina.

Ta'Haley Payton's family said while her boyfriend returned to the Greenville area, she has not been seen or heard from since November 20.

According to her family, Ta'Haley got into an argument with her boyfriend and at some point she was "kicked out of the car." This happened while the two were in Charlotte celebrating her birthday.

Her sister tells me Ta'Haley was last seen in the area of Elizabeth Avenue.

She was wearing a brown furry coat, sweatpants, Guess slides and carrying a brown Michael Kors bag.

The family tells me Ta'Haley's boyfriend was arrested by the Greenville County Sheriff's Office (SC) on Tuesday, after leading deputies on a pursuit. Online records show he was booked on (6) charges including DUI and Possession of a Firearm/Ammunition by Violent Felon. Online records show his bond on all charges has been 'satisfied' but he remains locked up as of 3:56 p.m.

Ta'Haley's family is worried about her well being and asking anyone in the Charlotte area to share her picture. The family is originally from Albany, Georgia but have been living in Greenville, South Carolina for the past 11 years.

At this point, no law enforcement agency has directly tied Ta'Haley's boyfriend to her disappearance.

I've reached out to Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department for additional information.
Anyone with information on Ta'Haley's whereabouts is asked to call CMPD at 704-334-1600.

According to Karlotta Payton, Ta-Haley’s boyfriend left her at a hotel in Charlotte following an argument.

Karlotta Payton said that the boyfriend drove home to Greenville, and her sister was stuck in the Charlotte area with no way to get home.

“Police somehow got involved with her, and basically said they wanted her to go to the hospital,” Karlotta Payton said.

The family says Ta-Haley Payton was admitted to a local ER for her post-partum depression, but was eventually released. That’s when she disappeared.

WBTV talked to businesses in the area. Some people said they spotted her, but Ta-Haley Payton was gone before anything could be done.

This makes me think more so that the boyfriend isn't involved, although definitely not a good human to just up and leave her alone at a hotel after an argument.. Driving home and leaving her with no transportation or way home.

prayers for this young woman, that she be found safe and alive, and get all the support she may need. Her BF is a first class jerk. I didn't see from the articles if he is the baby's father, but if he is then even more so a jerk for leaving her behind in a fragile mental state JMO

Friends of Payton told WSOC that she was in an argument with her boyfriend at the Microtel Inn & Suites in north Charlotte before her boyfriend drove away without her the next day.

Later that afternoon, a worker at a Crumbl Cookies shop said Payton went inside looking for help.

"She just asked to use my phone and I just handed it to her. She said her boyfriend kicked her out of the car. He was found with some other girl and she needed a ride," witness, Emily Stewart told WSOC.

She said Payton called her mom and returned to the store two other times to use the phone.

"It turns out she also messaged her boyfriend from my phone. I guess she said I'll sleep outside tonight and I'm sorry for everything," Stewart said.

Maybe I missed it, but do they suspect foul play? I presume she didn’t succumb to the elements… but I suppose self harm could be an option, though I doubt that.
One report linked stated she had been taken to the emergency room at the hospital with post partum depression by family AFTER the argument with the boyfrirend, at the urging of police who had become involved which was not long before her death. So I personally wouldn't rule it out. I imagine a full tox screen will be done as often is the case in a death investigation with no immediate, obvious causal factor noted by the ME. That can take 6-12 weeks and the results aren't always made public. I hope her famialy will find closure whatever, the outcome. No cause of death has ever been released for Payton.

On Friday, Jan. 17, family members returned to where Payton’s body was found to mourn and demand answers.

“I begged her not to come here,” said Stephanie Crawford, Payton’s mother. “My baby is dead I’m hurting so bad.”

Many questions remain in the wake of Payton’s disappearance and subsequent death -- and no one seems to have answers.

“My daughter was found out here naked without any clothes on,” Crawford said.

The family says they’re worried investigators will close the case without giving them the closure they need. WBTV’s Ron Lee reached out to Charlotte police, who said the investigation was still ongoing.

Some of these cases are just senseless heart wrenching. Travel to NC to celebrate B-day and the Boyfriend is cheating and kicks her to the curb. Some of these situations are so preventable and sad.....I need a break after reading this one RIP and such a young age

That sure wasn't what I suspected. Sounds like the BF got off the hook on this one. JMO
