In 1990, two televangelist churches were targets of mail bombs traced from Fayetteville, North Carolina. The first bombing occurred at Lakewood Church in Houston on January 30, 1990. Lisa Osteen opened a package and exploded injuring her.
The second bombing occurred at Christian Broadcasting Network in Virginia Beach on April 27, 1990. Security guard Scott Scheepers was nearly killed in the explosion.
Both were mailed to prominent ministers who had their show on television at the time John Osteen and Pat Robertson. These cases have not been solved to this day. However, a composite sketch of a suspect exists.
Looking at the composite sketch, it shows a resemblance to Eric Rudolph, who was involved in the 1996 Centennial Olympic Park Bombing, two 1997 bombings of an abortion clinic and Lesbian bar, and 1998 abortion clinic bombing.
Before the Lakewood bombing, Rudolph was discharged from the military for marijuana use in January 1989. Lakewood is a diverse church and Rudolph had known ties to racists. As to why he targeted CBN, he might of had some issues with materialism.
Rudolph would of 24 when he mailed those bombs, while the suspect was described between 28 to 35. The suspect is 5'10" to 6' tall, 160 to 175 pounds, which is about the right description for Eric Rudolph.
