''Theresa Carol Richardson
Unsolved Homicide
Date: 8/25/2005
City: New London
County: Montgomery
SBI District: Northern Piedmont
Case Description: On Thursday, August 25, 2005, Theresa Carol Richardson was discovered murdered in her residence located at 122 Bluebird Lane in New London in Montgomery County. Richardson lived alone in the mobile home park.

The SBI examined more than 75 swab samples which eliminated family, known boyfriends, and suspects who had been called in to authorities. Latent print evidence submitted to the SBI Crime Lab resulted in no matches to possible suspects' prints recovered at the scene. All other forensic evidence submitted was tested. Numerous individuals were interviewed without an arrest.

If you have information about this case or any unsolved case in North Carolina, please contact the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation, (800) 334-3000.''

''She had been stabbed multiple times.
“The brutality of this crime against her, it did seem very personal, and it was very violent,” said Denny, a special agent with the SBI’s cold case unit.

There was a lot of evidence for deputies to collect. One luxury investigators didn’t have in 2005 was cell phone data or an online trail. They started working things the old-fashioned way, asking around about Richardson.
“Unfortunately, she would voice her opinion on certain things, so she had some people that did not like her,” Tracy said.'

' As time moves by, and people move or pass away, one thing that’s improved is DNA testing.
“DNA has come leaps and bounds since 2005. It’s not even in the same playing field anymore,” Denny said.'
