A hunter discovered the victim's skull just a few yards from the Neuse River. While there are not many houses around the area where the skull was found, it is far from remote. Bill Lane Boulevard, a busy shortcut around Goldsboro, is just a few feet away. The model's chin may look slightly different because the victim's skull was damaged.Initially the victim was listed as male, however, DNA has confirmed the remains to be female.

Are you (or anyone here) able to go into the NamUs case for the unidentified female found and see if LN is on the ruled-out list? I can't get into the rule-outs, and I agree with the dates, age, location (state) matching, she should be submitted if not ruled-out. MOO.

I'm wondering if the reason they originally thought the UID was male (since they only had the skull) is because of the prominent brow ridge. That's usually the most obvious difference between a male and female skull. So maybe we need to be looking for a female with an unusually prominent brow ridge.

GPD: Remains Identified As Person Missing Since 2001 | Goldsboro Daily News
On December 6 of 2001, according to the report filed with the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office, human remains were located in the Bill Lane Boulevard area of Wayne County by hunters surveying the area for the hunting season. The remains were sent to the Office of Chief Medical Examiner for analysis. The initial analysis classified the remains as being from a younger black male. This classification of the remains did not match any existing missing person or death investigation. Wayne County detectives continued the investigation but were unable to identify the remains or identify any other evidence related to the human remains.

A new investigator took over the case in 2020, and obtained a DNA sample from Coleman's family and entered it into the National Missing Unidentified Persons System. A year later, NAMUS reached out to the Wayne County Sheriff's Office and said that the body found in 2001 was Coleman's.

The Goldsboro Police Department is still investigating her death.

A Goldsboro woman missing for nearly 20 years has been found after human remains discovered less than a month after she was last seen alive have finally been identified.

Felicia Coleman was reported missing to Goldsboro police on November 12, 2001.

Three weeks later, remains were found in the Bill Lane Boulevard area of Wayne County by hunters.

Coleman was a 23-year-old Black woman, and medical examiners initially said the remains belonged to a younger Black man.

In 2011, the Medical Examiner’s Office revised their findings to show that DNA testing indicated the remains actually were from a Black woman in her mid to late 20s. Wayne County detectives suspended their investigation due to a lack of leads.

Goldsboro police say in June 2020, Investigator James Sturgill began looking into Coleman’s disappearance as a cold case. Sturgill got DNA from the family and entered it into the National Missing and Unidentified Persons System.

Yesterday, Sturgill was notified the family’s DNA matched that from the remains found in Wayne County by the hunters.

Police said they are still investigating how the woman died in 2001.

Also to note Felicia was on NamUs ruled out list for this Jane Doe. As rule out was prior to 2020 when her DNA was obtained from her family, I assume she was ruled out just based on dentals. We also have to remember that it was only partial skull found and lower jaw/mandible was missing. (But still...)

There was a police report filed when she went missing....

This is what gets me about these cases....There was an actual police report...
I know there was a mix up with the sex, but geesh......

The sex was updated in 2011...meanwhile a police report on disappearance of Felicia Coleman from Nov 12, 2001 in the same county is getting dusty or forgotten or something.....
