Not much in the news about this disgusting horrific murder that happened on Sunday. Finally msm carried the story Thursday.

Cayler Ellingson, 18, called his Mom to come pick him up because a man in a vehicle was chasing him and he was scared. By the time she got there her son was dead.

"I have a job, a life and a house and things that I don't exactly want to see go by the wayside — family that are very important to me," Brandt said. After he ran down and killed the 18 year old due to a political disagreement.

I can't believe he was only charged with vehicular manslaughter. This wasn't an accident. Regardless of his motivation, it was murder, pure and simple. You have an unarmed victim and a guy using his truck as a weapon. The perp could have driven away at any time.

Little evidence of political argument before teen’s death in McHenry, ND

Investigators say none of the witnesses they have interviewed support the idea that there was a political argument before authorities say Shannon Brandt struck Cayler Ellingson with his vehicle on Sept. 18 in McHenry, and a family friend who knew the teen said he wasn’t active in politics.

yeah i dont know why he'd say that its strange why not just say he was threatening your life so you ran him over. I'm leaning to he's on drugs or drunk

According to 2 of the articles that the OP posted, Brandt’s alcohol level was above the legal limit of 0.08. Since he got bail, I certainly hope he doesn’t consume any alcohol while he’s out.

there was a subsequent article about the bail being low and he has no house arrest or restrictions regarding drinking. and he was .08 several hours later!!! he was litty titty when the incident occurred.

Maybe Brandt follows the news in neighboring South Dakota, and figured killing a fellow human with your vehicle was a misdemeanor:

The trial is expected to last two weeks beginning Tuesday, May 30 and ending June 9, 2023. Brandt’s attorney, Mark Freise and lead prosecutor, Kara Brinster have agreed to hold the trial in a different county in an effort to find an impartial jury, but that location has yet to be determined.

From Sept. 8, 2023: After guilty plea in May to manslaughter, Brandt sentenced to prison.
Shannon Brandt, of Glenfield, North Dakota, pleaded guilty in May to manslaughter in connection with Cayler Ellingson's death in September 2022, in McHenry, North Dakota.

[...]

A state district court judge on Friday sentenced Brandt to five years in prison with credit for nearly a year served, followed by three years' supervised probation and a yearlong suspension of his driver's license. The charge's maximum penalty is 10 years in prison, a $20,000 fine or both.

He was initially charged with criminal vehicular homicide, which was later dropped. He was then charged with murder and later pleaded guilty to manslaughter. Brandt had also been charged with leaving the scene of the fatality, since dismissed in a plea deal.
