The search began Sunday evening, but weather conditions — which dropped a dusting of flurries over the prairies — and daylight led law enforcement to abandon the search for the day. They continued Monday and on Tuesday, they gained assistance in the form of a bloodhound from the North Dakota Highway Patrol, as well as civilians who showed up in full force, wanting to help.

While there were initial misgivings about including civilians in the search, Det. Daniel Ward, public information officer for the Williams County Sheriff's Office, said that they were accepted into the mix and given assignments. These assignments — assigning them a grid to search and a map — were distributed and the search party went in separate directions either in vehicles or side-by-sides.

A $10,000 reward has been offered — by "a private citizen concerned for him," Fry said — relating to credible information about Shelton's whereabouts and safe return.

Roger Shelton, 61, was last seen on Jan. 5 near his home in the residential area of the township located west of Williston. Shelton was first reported missing to law enforcement by his son on Sunday evening.

Williams County Sheriff’s Deputy Daniel Ward said Shelton’s vehicles and personal effects such as his cell phone, wallet and medication remained at his home.

The search was delayed due to flurries and the setting sun but the Williston Police asked residents of the township to search their out-buildings, barns and other structures for Shelton as a more comprehensive search was mounted.

Shelton, who was last seen on the evening of Jan. 5, was shown in footage at the Black Gold Casino, located on the Montana side of the state line, about 10 miles west of his home in Judson Township.

Det. Daniel Ward with the Williams County Sheriff's Office stated that this was the last public place Shelton was known to be at before presumably returning to his home.

"We know he went back home after the casino, at least that is what we were led to believe, due to text messages he sent out and the fact his vehicles and phone were at his home," Ward said.

I wonder who reported him missing. Someone he lives with? But they waited a couple of days so there wasn’t immediate concern about him being missing.

His son reported him missing Sunday evening (Jan 7.) See original post for reference. It sounds like he lives alone, and when his son wasn't able to contact him he reported him missing. His vehicles and all of his personal items were at his home, but he wasn't there.

BACKGROUND
(Man of Habit)
Almost like clockwork, Roger Shelton made his daily stop at Gramma Sharon's Restaurant. Shelton was a man of habit, down to his typical order and where he sat at the restaurant: a long bar in front of the kitchen.

…..

Jan. 5, 2024:
•Shelton was traveling home from Bismarck where he had a doctor's appointment.
•He talked to his sister on the phone at 2:45 p.m. when she called him and then later on at 6:45 p.m. when she texted him.
•Decided to go to the Black Gold Casino (10 miles from home)
•Left casino at approximately 8:30 p.m.
•believed to have traveled home

Jan 6, 2024:
•surveillance video shows movement at Shelton's house. Between 6 and 7 a.m. on that day, two vehicles drove up and stopped in front of Shelton's home for a brief period. One or more individuals may have exited the vehicle. Then, both vehicles turned onto Highway 2, heading in the direction of Williston.

Jan 7, 2024:
•The Gramma Sharon's Restaurant reached out to family when Shelton didn’t show up 2 days in a row.
•When the family went to Shelton's home, they found his vehicles, his phone, his dentures, and other personal effects which suggested that something had happened.

Those who have information on Shelton's disappearance and/or whereabouts are encouraged to contact law enforcement.

"If somebody knows anything just to tell us, let us know, submit a tip, call us. Even if they think we already know it, if they think it's something we should hear again from a different perspective ... to just let us know. We're always willing to take the call and listen," Ward said. "We encourage people to do continue doing that. If they hear anything from people to just let us know or encourage the people that know this information to let us know."

I wonder if he might have been outside that morning and was hit by one of the vehicles? Very strange set of circumstances. MOO
