A nurse says he escorted an Eddy County murder suspect to surrender but county officials refused to accept custody of the man.

Leslie Olafson, 57, of New Rockford, is charged in the June 10 death of Selmer Veen, 83, a retired area farmer whose body was found his garage.

A man has been sentenced to 17 years in prison for killing an 83-year-old retired farmer, who family members said was struck on the head with a golf club.

Leslie Olafson, 58, of New Rockford, had pleaded guilty in August to a Class A murder charge.
