Relatives posted on Facebook describing Mayfield as six feet and 250 lbs. He was seen headed west on Highway 136 driving a blue, 2008 Jeep Liberty.
43 yr old male

The flier states he was last seen leaving Whiskey Run around 11pm that night.

Alexander Mayfield, 43, of Auburn was reported missing on Wednesday.

A report says that Mayfield may be in need of medical assistance.

If you have any information, contact the Nemaha County Sheriff’s Office at 402-274-3139 or the Nebraska Missing Persons at 1-877-441-5678.

Alex Mayfield, 43, has been reported missing as of July 31.

Update:
Found Deceased

The Nemaha County Sheriff’s Office recovered a body from inside a car found in the Missouri River.

Alexander Mayfield, 43, who was reported missing on July 31, was identified as the person found in the car, authorities told 6 News Wednesday.

An autopsy has been ordered. Authorities say that no foul play was involved.

This case needs further investigation. Alex was not suicidal yet he supposedly drove into the river and put the vehicle in park. Local cops said Alex had drowned sitting in the driver's seat. He was not intoxicated. Local police refuse to turn the case over to the Nebraska State Police.

Hey! I am new to this group. I have always been interested in True Crime, and unfortunately it has hit close to home for me. Not sure if this is where I do this but here goes: My nephew, Alex Mayfield, who was missing (see post on this website) was found dead(from drowning) in his vehicle in the Missouri River a week later. So many suspicious things surround this case, yet the local sheriff's office has closed the case. We have a P.I. who has uncovered a lot of suspicious things including:
*three of Alex's fingers were found in the backseat after the police released the released the vehicle back to the family
*He was wearing different clothes than he left the bar from an hour before, yet his wife says he did not come home and change
*He was not found with his ballcap or glasses (he never went anywhere without either)
*The ballcap he was wearing was found in his home
*A mechanic has confirmed that his vehicle was not running when it went into the water
*Funeral director said he was found with his butt on the steering wheel. Alex was a large individual, so this baffles me
*Alex was afraid of the Missouri River and would have not been near it
*He was not suicidal, confirmed by all
*He was not drunk or high according to blood tests

Please tell me where we go from here. We have had some reporter interest. We have talked with the county attorney, but he is not returning our calls now.
Help!!!!

Hi Penny s, Welcome!

I'm so sorry for the loss of your nephew.

The site mods will require media links for your list above, unless you become verified as an insider. Maybe you've already done that, but, just in case, here's a link to explain it: Verification Process for Professional or Insider Posters

Meanwhile, I would ask how would anyone other than the driver could get the car into the water and put it in park?

Sheriff Brent Lottman said his office has not determined it was an accident. He said they are waiting for autopsy and toxicology reports and will update the family when they have the results.

Have these reports come back yet?

Thank you. I have done that. My guess would be the car was in neutral, it wasn't running when it was pushed into the water. Maybe Alex by instinct put the car in park to stop it from moving. Speculation on my part. This story is being picked up by WOWT news very soon. The FOIA request was denied by Nemaha County.

We have autopsy. He died by drowning. The only drugs in his system were his prescribed medications. He was not legally intoxicated either.

I’m so sorry your family is going through this @Penny s.

I have two questions: (1) you said 3 of his fingers were found in the backseat? This seems really alarming and bizarre. Have the officials provided any details about what injury might have caused this?

(2) It sounds like what some of what your family and your PI have hinted at is that foul play led to his death. Was there anyone who might have wanted to harm him? Any big life changes, relationship breakdowns, job changes, house sales, etc that might have led to a disagreement with someone?

We have been concerned about some of his close family members. Alex was telling people he thought someone was after him and he was acting paranoid prior to his death. We have also learned that Alex and a close family member were selling their prescription medications at times.

No response from local Sheriff's office. They say the case is closed. They also just denied our FOIA request.

This is the last picture of Alex taken the night he went missing at a gas station prior to going to a bar called Whiskey Run. His autopsy reports he was wearing gray jersey shorts and a gray tshirt, no glasses, no ballcap when he was recovered from his vehicle on the Missouri River near Brownville, Nebraska 12 miles away from his home. The glasses and ballcap were found in his home. Clothes he was wearing in this picture have not been found according to his wife.. Alex never went anywhere without his glasses and ballcap.

Hi Penny s,

I am so very sorry to read about your nephew Alex's death and the unusual circumstances involved.

You are now Verified as Alex's family member, so you are able to provide information related to his case without having to post links to support knowledge or facts as you know them. If there are questions you can not answer or are not comfortable answering, you are not obligated to respond to them in any way.

A few quick questions:

Does the autopsy report state whether or not any water was found in his lungs?
Did Alex require his glasses for driving?
Do you know if his wife was home that evening (IOW, did Alex come home and leave without her hearing/knowing?)
What medical condition did he have and what prescription meds was he on for it?
Were you provided any explanation as to why family was denied the FOIA?

Thank you for any answers you can provide, and for being here to discuss the circumstances.

I ask Alex's sister if the autopsy said whether there was actually any water in his lungs and she said that she has not gotten the part of the autopsy that would say that. They only have 4 pages.

He was required to wear his glasses when driving and wore his glasses all of the time.

His wife was home and at first said she was 100% sure he did not come home at all. After further questioning from the PI, she backpedaled and said it was possible she didn't hear him because she was asleep. Same story from her grown daughter who also lives in the house. She was 100% sure he did not come home, but then backpedaled when pressed and said she may have been asleep.

Alex had been accidentally shot in the upper forehead and through his hand when he was 15 years old. It's a miracle he lived. He had some seizures and was on meds for that. Not sure what, but I can maybe find out. Alex also used marijuana fairly often.

The FOIA was denied because in Nebraska because "...please be aware that FOIA applies to request to and on Federal Agencies, your request to three Nebraska County Agencies to which FOIA does not apply." I guess it's a Nebraska thing.

Thank you for your interest. Running out of ideas here.

Does anyone know if me posting some pictures of Alex's vehicle after it was recovered and things found in his vehicle would be appropriate?
