Former Caril Ann Fugate applies for pardon from Nebraska murder charge in Starkweather case

"The former Caril Ann Fugate is asking for a pardon for a first-degree murder and felony robbery charge for which she was convicted 61 years ago along with her boyfriend, Charlie Starkweather.

Caril Ann Clair, 76, of Michigan, has been considering applying for the pardon since 2014.

Her pardon application, first filed in 2017, will be considered by the Nebraska Pardons Board on Feb. 18. According to the agenda, the board will not hear any testimony on that day on applications for pardons for criminal convictions. She is not requesting authorization to possess a firearm."

There is a 4-part Showtime doc. that's coming out later this week focusing on the horrific 1958 Starkweather/Fugate crime spree. Based on the title "The 12th victim", it appears that it will be "pushing" the narrative that CAF was an "innocent victim" here & that Starkweather held her hostage while he committed these killings. Yeah, right.

Though I may still check out the doc., based on all of the research I've done on this case it's evident that CAF was a very willing participant & may have even helped CS murder her mother/step-father & baby half-sister (who was only 2 when she was killed). Sickening. This psycho scum-bag got life in prison, but was paroled after 18 years for good behavior. What a joke. She should have gotten the death penalty.

Glad she was denied a pardon in 2020. She definitely doesn't deserve one, and got off easy despite her obvious role re: these unconscionable crimes.

Did you actually read the book? Amazon.com or this one? Pro Bono: The 18-Year defense of Caril Ann Fugate I've read both and they both present a compelling case for her innocence. I live in Lincoln and while I wasn't yet born when Starkweather's rampage took place (my mother and uncles vividly remember it) I've done extensive research as well, given that this case is local to me. I also used to work with the great-nephew of Starkweather's first victim, Robert Colvert (Caril Ann Fugate was not with him for this one.) https://www.findagrave.com/memorial/7672259/robert_george-colvert.
