NE NE - Sierra Wilcox, 4, Tekamah, 1 May 2010

You know...it is a very nice place to live. Small town of not even 2000 people where everyone knows everyone else. Nothing bad ever happens there.

The sad thing is, no place is immune to this kind of tragedy, no matter how safe or prosperous or clean a town may be. Or family, for that matter. I think that's what breaks my heart so badly for this father. He did think he was doing his best to protect his family, and I have no doubt he was. But sometimes, there are just some things a parent cannot control, especially if he's unaware. :(

But you're right..the girls WERE best friends. If you ever saw Trista out and about, Seirra would be right there with her..this tragedy has not only taken its toll on the family, but the community as well. It is the first time they've had to deal with something like this.

Definitely. I'd think this kind of case would hit the community even harder, because it's just not something that's supposed to happen. I do hope everyone in your town rallies together to take care of the sister and her parents. And I pray justice is appropriately served.

While all cases here are heartbreaking, sometimes a certain case or two will grab ahold of my heart and rip it right out of my chest. This is one of those times. :(

Suspect list grows to three in Tekamah girl's death

14-months after four-year-old Sierra was found dead in her home, and just as the sole suspect's murder trial was set to start, two other people are identified as persons of interest in the case.

Video at link. I have not followed this case.

There were two men outside the home the night the fire happened (identified as persons of interest) one of the men reportedly told LE that the other man disappeared for a period of time and could have been inside the home when Sierra was killed.

Sierra's brother has been released from jail. No arrests have been made.

What a truly bizarre twist. So the brother is out of jail, there are two men the police are questioning. I would think the fact that she was sexually assaulted (poor dear one), could have led to the brother being released. Maybe the DNA didn't match?

I've looked and I can see no date of the brother's release. Was it after these two men came to attention of LE or before?

Did I read the article correctly that the mother told that the little girl and her 14-year old step-brother were sleeping on the sofa in the basement? Who allows a 14 year old boy to sleep with his four year old step-sister? I'm not blaming the mother because the fault is with the fourteen year old, but it just didn't sound right to me.

I know this is an old post... but just wanted to say that my 5 year old daughter sleeps with her 14 year old half brother all the time.
She'll wake up in the middle of the night and go into his room and jump in bed with him. I don't allow my kids to sleep in the living room on the sofa... but If he would be downstairs watching TV late at night, I'm sure she'd come down with him and fall asleep on the sofa. I don't know what's so weird about that, other than them being in a basement, unless it was the brother's bedroom...?
My daughter loves her big brother... and there's nothing funky going on in my house.

This took place months ago. If the DNA didnt match what took them so long to figure that out? I live in Nebraska and something is very hinky about this and some other cases, especially in the smaller counties outside Lincoln and Omaha. There have been some very bad forensics..

Maybe the title should be changed on this to show he's been released or at least alleged put in the title...
IF that boy didn't do this........ I feel awful for him, just as awful as i feel for the little girl that died, because i'm sure a part of this boy died inside as well......

My guess is dna just came back on the crime and it matched someone already in the DNA databank.. someone that is NOT the 14 yr old brother....

He seems to be holding up pretty well, even though according to his attorney, he had special needs, couldn't read and functions at the level of a second grader.

If other DNA was found he wouldn't have spent 14 months in jail.

Something doesn't smell right with this witness coming forward 14 months after the murder. why wait so long, and right before trial. The suspect released with not a peep out of anyone for over four years. I'm not buying it.

"This girl was raped and murdered that evening," Burt County Attorney said. "This young man was less than six feet away. That's all I can say. That's why he's still a suspect.
