Assistant Police Chief Brian Jackson said 27-year-old Taylor Bradley may have been “amidst a mental health crisis” on Monday at the apartment complex near 40th Street and Nebraska Parkway.

Bradley, a resident at the complex, is accused of running over and killing two maintenance workers, 45-year-old Ronald Gonzalez-Ribas and 42-year-old Christopher Karmazin, with her vehicle.

“Nothing suggests the maintenance staff did anything to initiate this event,” Jackson said.

Officers were dispatched to the area of 4600 Briarpark Dr., The Lodge Apartments, regarding two individuals who were struck and killed by a motor vehicle near the clubhouse on Monday, March 27, 2023, at approximately 1:22 p.m. This vehicle was driven by 27-year-old female Taylor Bradley, a resident of the complex. Bradley was lodged on two counts of 2nd degree murder and is currently in the Lancaster County Correctional facility.

Video and witness accounts of the incident support the arrest of Taylor Bradley for second degree murder as they exhibit intent. Intent is further supported by the location where the victims were run over which is approximately 20-30 yards from any roadway.

Lincoln Fire and Rescue paramedics were summoned to the scene and after an assessment, declared the two victims deceased. Autopsies will occur in the coming days.

Omg!

On Oct. 9, 2023, Bradley’s attorney filed a notice of intent that she would be relying on an insanity defense. Months later, the State filed a motion in district court to have Bradley psychologically examined.

A Lancaster County judge approved that motion on Thursday. Judge Ryan Post ruled that Bradley will be psychologically examined by a doctor with Creighton University.

The doctor will determine four things about Bradley’s mental state on March 27, 2023:
  • if Bradley understood what she was doing
  • if Bradley could tell right from wrong with respect to her actions
  • if Bradley understands her alleged actions were wrong and worthy of punishment
  • if Bradley’s mental state was temporarily caused by substance abuse
The Court hopes to review the doctor’s findings by April 1.
