Found Deceased Netherlands - Andrew Furey, 48, from Northern Ireland, missing in Amsterdam, 11 April 2022

The body of Andrew Furey, a Northern Irish man who went missing on April 11, was found in Amsterdam on Wednesday morning. Police are no longer treating the case as a criminal investigation because Furey's body has no indications that a crime was committed, a police spokesperson told NL Times.

Nine days after his disappearance, he was found dead on the Hortusplantsoen. <a 12 minute walk from Thorbeckeplein were he was last seen by his family> Furey's body has been released to his family in Lisburn, Northern Ireland.

Furey, who was suffering from mental health problems at the time of his disappearance, was visiting Amsterdam with three other family members, including his sister. He separated from the group on the evening of April 11 and turned off his phone.

Police have not released any details about the nature of Furey's death, nor who discovered his body.

Well, I'm sure he wasn't actually lying dead in the street for those 9 days, as that news report makes it sound.

I wonder if he checked I to a hotel by himself somewhere to try and sort his head out, but didn't manage it. (I'm presuming suicide as it said he had mental health problems and police aren't looking for anyone else.)

I was asking myself the same thing.....9 days passed after he was found...but we don't know the circumstances...he might have wondered around or whatever...he was not lying on the street, he was found in the Hortusplantsoen, a small green park-like corner, but it's spring so the "green" is just starting to appear again. There is water though. My intention with posting the article was actually because to say it was not a crime. I will leave him in peace now and let his loved ones mourn.

Found in the Botanical Gardens.

Rest well now Andrew.

I have a friend who was briefly acquainted with him this year. He was a character apparently and a very friendly guy, and the whole thing is gutting and just so sad. Him going missing and then being found dead must have been agonizing for his family and I am sure they have lots of unanswered questions about those 9 days.
