This is actually good news:

New law could ban anyone convicted of animal cruelty from owning a pet

Florida News Service is reporting that new legislation that creates harsher penalties for animal abusers is set to go into effect October 1.

According to Florida News Service, the measure is known as 'Ponce's Law' and is named after a 9-month-old Labrador Retriever puppy found beaten to death in Volusia County last year.

It is good news! Thanks for posting it. But I’m so sorry about the little puppy. That’s so sad.

Sometimes I see new legislation trying to pass and it makes think “that’s not a law already?!”

This legislation should cover anyone who abandons pets in a natural disaster. There's no excuse.

No, I can't agree. As sad as it is to abandon a pet during a disaster, there are times when you simply cannot escape the danger and get to safety if you have to provide for your pet. This is a difficult concept that we are trying to teach our little grandson who dearly loves his dog. How do you tell him that in an emergency, you get out of the house, or get into the basement, and don't wait to look for Mr. Wags.

There may also be times you cannot escape the danger and get to safety if you have to provide for children. Yet, most parents wouldn‘t leave without them, even in sudden house fires.

Natural disasters like hurricanes are not so sudden. Everyone KNEW what was about to happen and had enough time to prepare. Yet, so many left those poor doggies, cats, chicken, and cattle to die. Those people just shouldn’t have animals if they are not willing to take care of them when the s**t hits the fan. IMO, JMO, IMHO, and all that jazz.
