Hi everyone,

I'm new to Websleuths and an really glad to have joined this community.

Obviously this website has been around a while and a lot of you folks will be very expert on both true crime, sleuthing, and how this website works.

Having looked through this forum, it's clear there's a *lot* of content, and I'm not really sure where to begin.

Do you have any suggestions as to how a newbie like me can usefully contribute and get involved?

Thanks!

Welcome @FromAcrossThePond :)

The site is pretty large and it can be overwhelming at first until you learn the lay of the land so to speak. What sort of cases interest you?

Some focus on missing persons cases, some prefer to focus on the cold cases, some on crimes in the news and so forth. The site has something for nearly everyone.

Thanks! And yes, it is a little overwhelming!

I think cold cases or "unsolved mysteries" (whether that be murders or missing persons) would probably interest me most. But to be honest I find most aspects of true crime fascinating.

Hi FromAcrossThePond! We’re glad you’re here.
Websleuths is a great source of info on countless cases.
Members who are interested in specific cases do searches to find the latest reports and then post links to those sources, which must be considered mainstream media in order to be allowed. Personally speaking, I know that I can come here to see what the most current news is on most cases. That saves me the time and effort of combing through search results myself. I really appreciate that.

Websleuths is considered the gold standard of true crime discussion forums, and that is due to the comprehensive and intentionally strict Terms of Service aka The Rules we all agreed to when we joined. It is a good idea to familiarize yourself with them, and to spend time reading threads to get a feel for how the flow of discussion goes.

If you have any questions about the Rules, it’s best to ask the moderators to be sure you get accurate answers. You can contact the moderators by clicking the Report link at the bottom left of any post. You can sent your question that way and a moderator will see it and address it. They are great!

I’m sure you will be up to speed in no time. It’s a friendly place in spite of the serious nature of the topics being discussed. There IS area called nicknamed the Basement where there are so-called Private Forums, which means it is only for members, not visitors to the site. It is listed last on the page that has the full Forum list.

There is lots to explore here, so kick back and have a look around.
We think you’ll like it here as much as we do!

I am new and dont know where to begin
Hello sharon jemutai,
We’re glad you joined Websleuths. It truly is the gold standard of true crime discussion forums. There is a lot of information here about countless cases involving crimes or missing persons.

The best way to start is to poke around the threads and see what catches your interest. There are sections about current crimes, as well as areas where old and/or cold cases are discussed. Reading is the best way to get the hang of how the discussion flows on threads. I have been a member since 2008, and I spent many months just reading here before Ijumped in to make a comment or ask a question. It’s fine to just “lurk” at first. Become Familiarize yourself with the Websleuths’ Terms of Service aka The Rules, that we all agreed to when we joined. They are linked on my signature below.

If you have any questions about how Websleuths works,it’s best to ask our volunteer moderators, who are great! They are happy to help. You can send a question by clicking on REPORT at the bottom left of any post. The moderators will see it and address the issue.

Thank you for joining the many thousands of Websleuths members.

Hello everyone.

<modsnip>

Don't know where to start. My idea is next, browse the web of Namus and find people with a few years (from 2016) to now, search for their name on networks and everything related.

I could look for Latinos, as I live on the border with the USA, many Mexican families publican family members who crossed the border and were never more than them, and it is obvious that many people have their lives here, they know people and have families but also many others have lost their lives there border is sea crossing the border or in accidents or even killed.

Do you think that would be a good option?

I'm open to any suggestions to improve.

Welcome to Websleuths!

Thanks for your interest in wanting to help with these particular cases. I edited your post as Websleuths does not allow or condone members reaching out to members of victims' families. There are many other ways you can help, however. There's a good thread discussion that may be of interest to you. I'll link it here and hope that you'll take a look. As others before me have said, there are many members who would be happy to help you, so don't be afraid to ask.

Hope this helps,
Mad

Thank you very much for your help. In fact, right now I identified a person found dead in 2024 in San Diego without being claimed and doing a search on Facebook I think I found relatives. I will read the document you shared with me carefully to see how I can help the forum and the community in general in the best possible way.

Hugs.
