A 20-year-old woman was fatally shot Wednesday evening in New York’s Upper East Side as she pushed her baby in a stroller, police said.
Police said a man wearing a black sweatshirt and sweatpants approached the woman near the corner of East 95th Street and Lexington Avenue, and shot her at close range before fleeing.

Authorities believe the victim and the shooter knew each other, calling it a domestic incident, and they've identified a person of interest they want to speak with, a senior law enforcement official said. The 3-month-old was not harmed, police said.
The woman is believed to be the child's mother, several law enforcement officials told CNN.
Authorities determined she was temporarily living in a building several blocks away, which is a women's shelter, one of the officials said.

Officials "strongly believe it was not a random shooting" and "the victim was targeted," the mayor added Thursday morning.
Investigators learned the child's age and details about the woman from domestic incident reports on which her name appears, the official said. The reports include her name, those listed as former boyfriends and the name of a second child who was not with her at the time of the shooting, one official said. Her name has not been released publicly.

On Wednesday night, Stephanie McGraw, the founder of We All Really Matter, a Harlem-based organization known as W.A.R.M. that aids domestic violence victims, was just inside the police tape cordoning off the site of the shooting.
Ms. McGraw said she was there because she “got a call,” but declined to elaborate. Although the authorities said only that the circumstances surrounding the shooting were under investigation, she speculated that domestic abuse might be involved. Two law enforcement officials confirmed that the police were looking at the killing as a potential incident of domestic violence.
“You don’t just randomly shoot a woman with a small child point blank in the head,” Ms. McGraw said. “That’s rage.”

so tired of men thinking women and/or children who are inconvenient for them or who, heaven forbid, tell them no, or who leave their abusive behinds, are disposable.
And this kind of crime will get so much worse. We will be seeing it on the daily. SMDH I'm gonna go out on a very short limb and say this was an intimate partner scorned or baby daddy who didn't want to pay child support.
another child of undetermined age and the 3 month old are now left motherless and the 20 year old will never see those babies grow up. so very sad all the way round.
