"In a nice, quiet, blue-collar town, this shocked everyone," Melendez said. "I felt a strong need to mention her in one of my books because I can't believe there is no traction on this case, I can't believe it."

Just before midnight on July 9, 2012, Duncan-Wilson and a friend were walking on Hussa Street from the Dunkin’ Donuts on Wood Avenue in Linden.

As the two friends walked, words were exchanged with someone they encountered, officials have said. Duncan-Wilson was robbed before being shot in the head. She died at the scene. Police believe she might have recognized the shooter.

Her friend, who police have never identified, is a potential witness. Police said there might have been more than one person involved in the robbery.''

''Melendez said she is surprised Duncan-Wilson's friend has provided limited helpful information.

“I found it befuddling to the core," Melendez said, adding she's more disturbed by why there hasn't been more media coverage of the Duncan-Wilson case.

Duncan-Wilson's friend's cellphone was found in Rahway near the river, across from 401 River Road, about five hours after the killing. Police have said it appeared as if someone tried to throw the cellphone into the river but missed.

Duncan-Wilson's family and people in the community believe there are people who know who the shooter is, as well as the person with the shooter.''

''Duncan-Wilson was a Linden High School cheerleader, good student and was involved in the school's dance program. A mural of a butterfly is painted inside the school's dance studio in her memory. She had received a partial scholarship to study criminal justice in college and had plans to become a police officer.''

''LINDEN – Amber Duncan-Wilson had a bubbly, caring personality, traits that Brianna Armstead so admired in her high school cheerleading captain that Armstead tried to emulate them when she became captain.

"She was always so nice. She never treated anyone different because of her status as a cheerleading captain. She was always the most helpful person on the team. She always made sure if you didn't understand something, you could come to her," said Armstead, 24, a 2015 Linden High School graduate.

Armstead said Duncan-Wilson was a really sweet person, had a lot of friends, and everyone liked her.

"She's one of the reasons I wanted to become a captain. I ended up becoming a cheerleading captain in my senior year as well. I tried to be kind, I tried to be someone that I felt the girls could come to if they were stressed or they didn't get something. I just tried to extend myself just in the same way she extended herself. She always overextended herself with the team," Armstead said.

Saturday marks the 10-year anniversary of the shooting death of 18-year-old Duncan-Wilson as she was walking with a friend on Hussa Street, just days after her Linden High School graduation. Besides serving as a cheerleading captain, Duncan-Wilson also was a talented high school dancer.''

''Duncan-Wilson had been accepted to Saint Peter’s University in Jersey City with plans to become a police officer.''

It is very sad. Such a bright, beautiful young lady, just starting her life. I think her friend knows but is very afraid. I think it was another teen that they knew from the neighborhood. R.I.P. Sweet Amber.

"We remain steadfast in our belief that there are people who have information that could help solve this case," Linden police said.

Sources told The Star-Ledger at the time that Duncan-Wilson recognized her killer, told the person to "knock it off," and threatened to call her older brother before being shot in the head

Welcome to Ws @Apple ninja boy!
Although several of Amber's friends are named- apparently not the friend Amber was walking with that fateful night.
Amber certainly was a beloved member of the community, hope they catch the son of a gun soon. imo. rbbm.

“Amber was my student in sixth grade, and I was her principal when she graduated high school. She was an amazing young lady and we continue to mourn her tragic loss. The district honors her spirit with an annual scholarship and with remembrances on the walls of our dance studio, where she’ll never be forgotten," said Superintendent of Schools Danny Robertozzi.''
